Does the Washington Post Care More About Kansas Than Virginia?

On Saturday's page E17, the Washington Post ran an Associated Press story on Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' veto of a bill that would have green-lighted two new coal-fired power plants.

Awesome. Global warming and clean energy are huge issues. Nice job, Washington Post.

So why won't they cover Virginia's debate over the proposed Wise County plant?

A search of the Post archives shows not a single news article or editorial on the Wise County plan in 2008 and just one op-ed. A few mentions of the proposed transmission line through Northern Virginia mostly focused on whether it should be above or below ground, not whether it's a boondoggle. And not a single reference to the efforts of Chap Peterson and CCAN to pass the Clean Energy Future Act.

I'm not saying the Washington Post is pro-coal or anti-environment. They're not. But Dominion has to love that the best coverage on Wise is being read mostly in coal country while environmentalists in Northern Virginia are in the dark.

The pressure may be paying off... (paulburman - 3/27/2008 1:45:25 PM)
Word on the street is that the Post is finally going to give in a run a story on the Wise County fight on Sunday or Monday. Better late than never... but it would have been nice to get some coverage last November...
