Coy Barefoot, Director of Communications, forwarded a message from Barbara Fried who is the head of the Sorensen Board, announcing that a replacement has been found for Sean O'Brien, who left for Montpelier.   The name will be familiar to Virginians with any political awareness.   He is a graduate of Washington-Lee High School in Arlington and the University of Virginia.  Most will know him as the eminently fair writer for the Charlottesville Daily Progress.

Bob Gibson

That"s right.  The new Executive Director is Bob Gibson.   As a participant in the 2008 class of the Political Leaders Program, I am delighted by the selection, and look forward to his leadership.
UPDATE: 10 PM the news is now on the Sorensen website here

As a Sorensen Alum of the College Leader's Program (2007) I can personally attest to the tremendous job Sean O'Brien did as executive director. Bob Gibson certainly has big shoes to fill, but I'm sure he is more able to take this task.

Much agreed. As a graduate of the 2007 HSLP I certainly got to know and very much respect Sean O'Brien. It was certainly sad to see him go, and I can only hope for the best from Gibson.

It is terrible to lose Sean (JMU Duke - 3/25/2008 10:47:42 PM)
but I am excited about the selection of Bob Gibson and Coy, Marc Johnson and the rest of the Sorensen staff are doing outstanding work down in Charlottesville. The 2007 CLP was one of the greatest months of my life; I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm not sure Sean O'Brien was a big loss (Ben - 3/26/2008 8:58:41 AM)
I think Bob will do better.
