Who Is Jon Bowerbank and Why Should You Care?

Eric and I spent several hours yesterday at the Bristol Motor Speedway in the luxury suite of Jon Bowerbank.  We had a great time watching the race, and also hanging out with people like Del. Jim Shuler (D-12), Sen. Phil Puckett (D-38), former (and future?) House of Delegates candidate Bruce Roemmelt (D-13), Tom Graham (9th CD chair and former HoD candidate in the 5th), Brian Patton (future AG?), Joe Puckett, and a bunch of other cool people. The generous host was Jon Bowerbank, president and CEO of EMATS, Inc.  Bowerbank, a Democrat, is strongly considering running for a major statewide office.  Expect to hear more news on this in the near future.  As Ben would say, "Developing..."

Ahh - I see... (ericy - 3/17/2008 8:37:48 AM)

Now I can see why you decided to take this road trip :-).

My fiancee is a big Nascar fan, and she keeps threatening to drag me to a race.  It just doesn't interest me at all, so I keep making excuses.  Although she said that last night's race was kind of boring to her as well for some reason.

Boring? Hmmm... (Eric - 3/17/2008 5:09:00 PM)
Not enough crashes I suppose.  I'll be posting more on the race soon.  Maybe she can check in on RK to see more...

Jon Bowerback looks like an outstanding candidate (Ben - 3/17/2008 5:17:53 PM)
I appreciated him coming up to Northern Virginia a couple weekends ago to introduce himself to Lowell and I, and that should speak volumes about how he views the importance of the Virginia blogosphere.

In addition, his support from people in southwest Virginia like Brian Patton and Joseph Puckett, gives me very good confidence in him.

An excellent start to a statewide campaign if that is what he decides to do.

an obvious threshhold viability question (jsrutstein - 3/17/2008 5:44:17 PM)
What's EMATS, Inc.'s position on new coal-fueled electricity plants and cleaning up/phasing-out existing such plants?

I didn't ask for his company's position on issues (Ben - 3/17/2008 6:24:53 PM)
But from my knowledge of other likely candidates, and the conversation I had with Jon, expect him to be the progressive in the race.

You lucky bums... (bladerunner - 3/17/2008 8:13:43 PM)
You just went to the Mecca of NASCAR--consider yourselves lucky. I've been to Richmond, Dover and Indy. I hope to get to Bristol some day. Now that's a race.
