From the Arlington Sun Gazette:
The mantra - dubbed 80 in '08 - is "a slogan you're going to hear more about," party chairman Peter Rousselot told members of the Arlington County Democratic Committee on March 5.In contested races, county Democrats can usually count on between 65 and 75 percent of the vote. Hitting the 80-percent mark would be a new record, but is "very, very doable," Rousselot said.
The party was challenged to hit the target by Mark Warner, who brought up the idea when he had state Democrats over for a big dinner.
"We only gulped slightly" when the number was mentioned, Rousselot said.
It's certainly a lofty goal, but one that could hand Virginia's electoral votes to a Democrat for the first time since 1968 1964. Great job Peter and the rest of the Arlington County Democratic Committee for setting the record (74.3% for Tim Kaine and 72.6% for Jim Webb- providing his margain of victory) and then setting the bar even higher!
