Long contests rock!

Seeing Barak Obama on CNN campaigning in Casper Wyoming has put me in a happy mood.  This long primary season is going to give Obama and Clinton a chance to talk to voters in every state.  I lived in Wyoming for almost 20 years and we never saw a presidential candidate at a town hall meeting ever.  Sometimes we saw them on the slopes at Jackson Hole; but they never engaged with voters.  If the consequence of the primary going all the way to june is that our two great candidates talk to voters in all 50 states then I'm all for it.

Great point (Terry85 - 3/7/2008 7:18:21 PM)
While I still think having the primary last this long is giving McCain a "head start" it is certainly giving the Democrats a chance to reach out to people in states they wouldn't normally even bother with.

Really? (tx2vadem - 3/7/2008 7:50:34 PM)
Clinton and Obama attacking each other for months to come.  Basically, doing McCain and the Republicans work for them free of charge.  A battle that continues to the convention where multiple ballots are required to come up with a nominee.  Superdelegates playing the deciding role and possibly pissing off a whole lot of supporters of one candidate or the other.  And both campaigns draining resources for the General on an extended primary fight.  This is good?

I am all for a 50 state strategy.  And I think our nominee should make a point of visiting every state and reaching out to voters everywhere.  Because everyone should feel included in this monumental event.  But a long primary battle seems like we are giving up any advantage we had going into this November.  And at the end of the day, I fear that Denver will represent a Pyrrhic victory for our nominee.

If this nonsense doesn't force changes to the primary system (relawson - 3/7/2008 8:26:49 PM)
I don't know what will.
