With the Virginia General Assembly scheduled to adjourn on Saturday, here are some of the latest developments.

*A compromise on payday lending appears to be moving ahead.  You know it's a compromise because both sides don't like aspects of it.  :)

*The Senate unanimously approved legislation that cracks down on animal fighting in the aftermath of the horrendous Michael Vick dogfighting case.

*A proposed study of potential uranium mining in Virginia appears to be dead.

*It looks like a special session is in order to deal with transportation following the Virginia Supreme Court decision striking down regional authorities.  Vivian Paige reports that the General Assembly "will be reconvening on April 16."

What else are you hearing?

Urge budget conferees to... (elevandoski - 3/3/2008 11:12:02 PM)
Tell budget conferees to reject the budget proposals found in Item 140 #45h and #52h. This is the SOQ re-benchmarking proposal that if imposed will be found just as unconstitutional as one transportation authority.

And while you got any budget conferee's attention... tell them to restore the funding to Planned Parenthood for prevention health services. These programs provide basic health care for women and help prevent unintended pregnancies.

There's also funding for Del. Brian Moran's "Alicia's Law" (HB1189).  Senate conferees need urging to at least match the $1.25 million allocated in the Republican House.

Budget conferees are:
Del. Clarke Hogan, (804) 698-1060
Del. Beverly Sherwood, (804) 698-1029
Del. Phillip Hamilton, (804) 698-1093
Del. Lacey Putney, (804) 698-1019
Del. Kirk Cox, (804) 698-1066
Sen. R. Edward Houck, (804) 698-7517
Sen. Walter A. Stosch, (804) 698-7512
Sen. Charles J. Colgan, (804) 698-7529
Sen. Janet Howell, (804) 698-7532
Sen. William C. Wampler, (804) 698-7540

Just some additional info on Uranium mining (aznew - 3/4/2008 9:27:20 AM)
From the Danville Bee:

While the state has decided to halt a proposed study of the risks and benefits of mining uranium, those on both sides of the issue agree the fight is not over.
