As many of you already know, Hillary Clinton's fundraising vastly improved in February. After a very weak January in terms of fundraising, Clinton raise $35 Million in February, only a million short of Obama's record breaking January. This is certainly a big accomplishment for Clinton, and should definitely help her campaign should it survive March 4th.
But Obama's people claim to have raised even more than that in February. Let's see if the RK community can predict how much Obama raised.
all you need to note is what they just did - they bought 2 minute blocks of time in every media market in TX (20) and Ohio (not sure, but I think 7-9). Oh, and they did it twice - that is, early news and late news in each market. Just that buy alone probably represents in excess of 6 million smackeroos.
You look at the amount of advertising in those states and obama is running twice as much or more. And Clinton actually started the month in the whole - owing more than she had cash on hand. And of that 35 mill she raised she owed herself 5 million and a few million more to others. In other words, she has effectively only around 28 mill to spend this month, if she paid off her debts. And before he raised a dime, Obama had about 18-19 mill cash on hand as of the end of last month.
I think the campaign will not make its announcement until the weekend, perhaps in a way designed to grab a news cycle.
And Dan - kudos for you on your trip to Nicaragua. I have family who went to Costa Rica through their church - some worked at an orphanage, others helped build stoves for people in their homes in remote villages. They said it was the most rewarding experience of their lives. Have a great trip.
I think he's added 350,000 new donors over the internet just this month, plus there are the re-curring donations from existing donors.
So let's say $20 million from new donors; $25-$30 million from existing small donors; plus $10 - $15 million from large donors.
On the low-end I'd say $55 million. On the high end $65 million. Either way I see him breaking the $54 million Kerry record from Feb. 2004 -- and doing it while relying in a large way on small donors, which is absolutely amazing.
