Jim Webb On The History Channel

Since I'm currently studying history at George Mason University, it shouldn't be too surprising that I frequently watch the History Channel. One of the shows that aired tonight (Saturday) was entitled "Hillbilly: The Real Story" and spent a significant amount of time discussing the culture of the Scots-Irish -- many of whom have made their home in the Appalachia.
So why the heck am I pointing this out on this forum. Well, as you may recall, one of the slogan's of Sen. Jim Webb's campaign was "Born Fighting." What you might not know, is this was also the title of a book he wrote about the Scots-Irish back in 2004. It was in this role that Webb made several appearances throughout the show discussing various aspects of Scots-Irish culture. The Senator was a great addition to the show, even more so for this history major who proudly volunteered for his campaign.
For anyone who is interested in watching the show, it will be replayed at midnight tonight and Tuesday March 4 at 8am and 2pm.

I've read Born Fighting and found it fascinating.
Agreed (Kindler - 2/24/2008 6:57:11 PM)
It's nice to have a Senator with some intellectual heft.
We have enough people in Congress who are focused on less intellectual pursuits like larding the budget with earmarks to reward the lobbyist who's plying them with the best hookers...
Very True (BP - 2/25/2008 3:23:23 PM)
After eight years of watching Republicans celebrate ignorance and stupidity as virtues, it's good to have Jim Webb available to demonstrate that intelligence is not a handicap and thoughtful analysis is not a sign of "weakness."
