McCain is McLovin

Looks like John McCain has been getting a little frisky.  Or at least trying to.  In honor of his efforts he's earned his very own Mclovin ID.

For those of you who aren't familiar - it's a reference to last year's Superbad, a movie that is a cross between Clerks and a live action Beavis and Butthead.  Not for everyone, but if you like the other two you'll probably like Superbad.

Interestingly enough, this story has also brought forth two other reasons why McCain would make a bad President: The Keating Five S&L Scandal (I'm glad people aren't forgetting) and, of course, his raging anger.

McCain, R-Ariz., faces reporters at 9 am ET Thursday in Ohio -- and expect it to be one of those tour-de-force press conferences, with McCain dialing up the indignity and the outrage and staying until every last question is answered (and every last question is asked of The New York Times' motivations).

Yeah, just what we need in a President: a combination of Bill Clinton's libido and Dubya's corruption mixed with raging anger.

I suppose now... (Va Blogger2 - 2/21/2008 9:07:13 PM)
...that the press conference is over and McCain didn't lose his cool, that some sort of retraction or edit will be posted?

Fair enough (Eric - 2/21/2008 9:40:41 PM)
I'm perfectly comfortable admitting he didn't blow his top this time.  Are you comfortable admitting that he has an anger problem?

"An anger problem"? (Va Blogger2 - 2/22/2008 12:13:45 AM)
Considering how subjective that phrase is, and how easy it is to turn that into a smear, no, I'm not willing to say that. McCain's anger has become legend in Washington D.C., usually on issues that McCain is most passionate about. I don't think passion is a bad thing if you believe in something strong enough.

You can have passion (tx2vadem - 2/22/2008 8:41:59 PM)
about an issue without yelling expletives at your colleagues.

McCain a "preening phoney" (Andrea Chamblee - 2/22/2008 1:16:11 AM)
An article in Salon points out that McCain, one of the Keating 5 responsible for the Savings and Loan crisis that left hundreds of thousands of Amerricans with no access to their savings, has been screwing with lobbyists for decades.

According to Salon:

We may never know exactly what kind of relationship McCain pursued with Iseman. But if she is a symbol of broader patterns in his political career, as the Times story suggests, then it becomes easier to understand why many of his colleagues regard this great reformer as a preening phony. Although he has often displayed independence from the pressures of the capital, he has sometimes succumbed to those influences; and while he may seem to shun lobbyists, he actually surrounds himself with them.

Eight years ago, when McCain's connection with Iseman alarmed his staffers, the most lucrative lobbying contracts won by Alcalde & Fay were with the cruise ship industry. In 2001 alone, Iseman's firm received well over a million dollars from passenger ship companies and interest groups, which include local port authorities in Florida as well as companies such as Carnival Cruises. That year, the International Council of Cruise Lines paid Alcalde & Fay a fee of $990,600, by far the largest amount from a single interest that the firm has earned during the past decade. Iseman herself is a longtime registered lobbyist for Carnival.

The most troubling incident linking the senator and the lobbyist, according to staffers interviewed by the Times, occurred on a February night when McCain and Iseman flew back together on a Paxson corporate jet from Florida to Washington. That evening they had attended a small dinner party at the "Miami-area home of a cruise-line executive," who was raising money for McCain's "reform" presidential campaign.

Yeah (aznew - 2/22/2008 2:46:46 PM)
Curious to see how he works his way out of this one.

BTW, for some insight into why the press loves McCain so much, and how things work on the "Straight Talk Express," Ryan Lizza's piece in this week's New Yorker is worth the time:

He's McLovin and McLying (Eric - 2/22/2008 2:57:52 PM)
Did McCain just admit to his affair by using the phrase "I don't recall"?

That denial has been uttered by other politicos - later to be proven guilty of what they denied with "I don't recall".  Bill Clinton and Scooter Libby come immediately to mind.

I think we'll be hearing more about this issue...

Also, see the latest (Lowell - 2/22/2008 8:32:36 PM)
from the Washington Post: "Paxson Contradicts McCain Campaign on Meetings."

I'm starting to feel (Eric - 2/22/2008 8:59:48 PM)
a Lewinsky coming on.

But no need to waste tens of millions of tax payer dollars on a Presidential witch hunt like the Republicans did - we just won't elect this one!  Problem solved.
