I can't decide if this is hilarious, insulting, stupid, just typical Chris Matthews, or what. Thoughts?  Also, just to flip Matthews' question around, what I want to know is "Where do people start speaking northern?" Ha.

The answer is: it's just sad. (Houdon - 2/14/2008 10:08:30 AM)
The cultural South is nearly dead.  Short Pump is Long Island is Manassas.  It's hard enough to find a native Virginian, let alone elect one our Governor.

Forget not all the "Native Virginians" being born and in our schools thanks to people who did not start as "Native Virginians."

Generational Change, it's what's for dinner.

A lot to be said for some things about the South (Silence Dogood - 2/14/2008 4:18:33 PM)
I kind of miss the Southern accent (I have one, at times).  And it's a beautiful accent; Shakespeare sounds better in some of the more lyrical American accents, including the Southern coastal accents, than it does in a Mercer English accent.  Many an English Shakespeare scholar will readily agree.

And I definitely miss Southern hospitality at times.  Occassionally you'll still find it.  I've canvassed neighborhoods as a volunteer and been invited in for water and a sandwich if it was hot or to come in out of the rain.
