I had been hearing rumors about this, but have now confirmed that Amy Reger has resigned as DPVA Executive Director (a position she's held since March 2006). Reportedly, Amy's off to a job with the DNC, so congratulations to her on that! I've also heard that Levar Stoney is going to be taking over as DPVA Executive Director. I don't know Levar real well, but he seems like a great guy from the dealings I've had with him. Also, I've heard that Levar's netroots outreach will consist of more than holding one meeting and never holding another one. Now that's something to look forward to. Congratulations and welcome to Levar!
P.S. I believe Levar is the first African-American to hold this position - just three days before Virginia's going to vote for Barack Obama. Presumably, Harry Byrd is rolling over in his grave (who knows what Bill Howell and Frank Hargrove have to say). Ha.

Congrats to Levar! (JMU Duke - 2/9/2008 11:20:49 AM)
It's exciting to see a fellow JMU grad making moves. Also exciting to see that that picture was taken on the infamous "kissing rock" on the JMU quad.
Levar will be an excellent ED (James Martin - 2/9/2008 11:54:46 AM)
He's done an exceptional job as Political Director!

I've worked with Levar on the ground in recent campaigns here in SW VA and he is first rate.
Congratulations, Mr. Stoney!

Levar works hard at keeping it all together for DPVA. I suggest that the netroots reach out to him as well. Congrats!

Levar is an honest broker that did his (difficult) political director assignment well. We hope that the gets the resources he needs to make a difference as DPVA X-D!
Congratulations, buddy.
I talked with Levar last night - (teacherken - 2/10/2008 7:23:50 AM)
at an event Creigh Deeds sponsored for Tom Periello. He is excited by the challenge.
I also spoke with a number of people who more than snickered at the kind words being said about Amy. She stepped on far too many toes during her tenure.
Peace.
An unnecessary insult (The Economist - 2/11/2008 10:32:29 AM)
Teacherken, it is not productive to take a slap at Amy Reger as she leaves DPVA. You have had little or no dealings with her, but I can tell you she did a fantastic job of running the DPVA and elevating the field operations, fundraising, and staffing of the organization.
Despite your natural netroots bias because DPVA wouldn't cater to every whim of the bloggers, Amy Reger made a difference.
She leaves the DPVA better than it was and in Levar Stoney's very capable hands. Word is, Governor Kaine and DPVA Chairman Cranwell both asked her to stay.
If she, in your opinion, is such a slouch, why was she offered a top job at the DNC?
Teacherken, stick to your long-winded prognostications on the blogs and stop skewering people you don't know based on other people's biases and opinions.
You are better than that.
Levar is awesome.. (lgb30856 - 2/10/2008 5:39:57 PM)
He started with the netroots, I think with Howard Dean.
He is so aproachable.
But thanks to Amy and all she did.
He's a Great Choice (Chris from ASL - 2/11/2008 8:51:43 AM)
Levar is an old friend of mine...you could not have made a better choice for DPVA. Congratulations Levar!
