Anita Hartke Announces Candidacy for CongressREAL ESTATE BROKER SEEKS DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION TO RUN AGAINST REP. ERIC CANTOR
Anita Hartke of Culpeper County announced her candidacy today for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 7th District. "I seek election to Congress because it's time for a new direction in Washington and in the 7th District," said Hartke. "I'm stepping forward to be a voice for those citizens who believe that issues important to them are being ignored and not even discussed at the highest levels of government," she continued.
"Voters are increasingly frustrated by the gridlock, lack of leadership, and excessive partisanship in Washington," Hartke stated. "Our current Congressman, Eric Cantor, is part of that problem," she said.
"I offer myself as a candidate who will be an independent and pragmatic problem solver in the mold of former Governor Mark Warner," continued Hartke. "It's time for us to move beyond all of the partisan bickering and political sound bites so that we can address the real concerns of 7th District voters-to get the economy moving again, increase access to affordable healthcare, preserve the environmental treasures of our region, and enhance our nation's security by bringing our involvement in Iraq to an honorable end."
"My family has a proud history of public service and a willingness to fight for middle-class families," Hartke stated. Hartke, 48, is the daughter of the late Sen. Vance Hartke, who represented Indiana for 18 years in the U.S. Senate. "I learned from my father that dedication to serving others is a noble calling, and representative government is critical to ensuring the rights of each citizen," she concluded.Anita Hartke grew up in Fairfax County and earned a B.A. in Psychology from Salem College in Salem, West Virginia. She has worked for 20 years as a Realtor and is a licensed real estate broker.
