Two More Reasons to Vote for Obama

There are now two more reasons to vote for Barack Obama next Tuesday.
Reason #1: Del. Johnny Joannou is on Hillary Clinton's "Virginia Committee." What's wrong with Johnny Joannou? See here for the whole story. It's not pretty.
Reason #2: George Burke, 11th District Democratic Committee Chair. What's wrong with Thomas Paine Patriot George Burke? See here for more.

Ugh! Triangulating Establishment Bots (True Blue - 2/4/2008 5:43:45 PM)
Ugh! As if we needed any more proof that Clinton will sell us out to the HMOs and big pharmaceuticals when the time comes.
As for Burke, if he's actively involved in her campaign then there is no reason for the netroots to ever show up for a Clinton campaign.
George Burke (Ben - 2/4/2008 5:49:10 PM)
I'm sure the Clinton campaign is too focused on Super Tuesday states to have looked over this list very close or know all the players. I agree- now that it has been brought to their attention the comments that George made about Jim Webb- including accusing him of being anti-semitic- that they should announce they do not accept his endorsement.
I agree (Providence Democrat - 2/4/2008 6:22:06 PM)
But I also disagree.
George Burke should NEVER have allowed HIMSELF to be placed on this list.
Reckless behavior as a democratic leader.
btw (Providence Democrat - 2/4/2008 6:23:19 PM)
The "democratic leader" was a joke.
now that I think about it (Chris Guy - 2/4/2008 6:32:44 PM)
you (Ben Tribbett) should be on that list. You do more for Hillary, and are more well-known than, most of the people on that list.
I am on another list (Ben - 2/4/2008 7:12:26 PM)
Not sure whe split was between lists, but mine comes out later this week. Thanks for the thought. :-)
another person on that list (Chris Guy - 2/4/2008 5:51:26 PM)
has posted here on RK under the name 'veryblue'
Here's one of her greatest hits:
Sorry, Jack Kennedy didn't do anything for this country. Lots of pretty words, fights with our neighbors, whores for him and the boys in the White House, and yes, by the way, his campaign paid poor out-of-work miners in West Virginia to vote for him. Lost my respect forever.
I don't really like Ted either. Fat, slow, and useless. Remind me of Ted's great legislative accomplishments -- No Child Left Behind -- with Bush. It's on its way down the toilet.
Ted Kennedy (Lee Diamond - 2/4/2008 5:56:32 PM)
Only the greatest legislator in American history. No big deal really.
You can't blame a legislator for trying to work with a President. Besides, he didn't repeat the mistake over and over again the way some people did.
yeah, but (Chris Guy - 2/4/2008 5:59:52 PM)
he's fat and slow
Want to know how desparate they are... (NGB - 2/4/2008 6:27:01 PM)
My wife is on the list if Clinton supporters that make up her "committee"
1. They spelled her first name wrong (it is Megan, not Meghan)
2. They got her last name wrong. It is Crain, not Thornton.
3. They never asked her to "be on this committee"
4. She doesn't even remember signing anything saying she was a Clinton supporter (though unfortunately she is)
5. The fact that my wife, who hasn't done anything in VA politics in 3 years (except volunteer for Chap) is on their list b/c they couldn't find enough other supporters.
The sad truth of the Clinton Campaign.
well (Scripple - 2/4/2008 6:30:28 PM)
I usually don't post stuff mocking other candidates, but some of the "titles" they used were just priceless:

Lowest common denominator (Silence Dogood - 2/4/2008 6:54:40 PM)
I'm disappointed by this post. I appreciate a lot of the Obama supporters on here, but there are a few who aren't Obama supporters quite as much as they simply have a deep-seated, vitriolic hatred for Hillary, and it makes me uncomfortable to be grouped in the same movement simply because we hold concurrent opinions.
I mean, one of the 10 Senators to endorse Obama was Sen. John Edwards, who this site branded the Joe Lieberman of Virginia after voting no on proposed gun show legislation. Does being a fellow Obama supporter mean I agree with John Edwards that we should subject people who buy weapons at gun shows to the same background checks people undergo when they purchase the same firearm at a gun dealer? Does it mean that Obama doesn't believe in background checks? Of course not! But you could make argument based on the logic of the lowest common denominator.
I reiterate, this was a disappointing post, Lowell. While I understand that you have some personal history with George Barker, I really wish you hadn't put this up.
edit: (Silence Dogood - 2/4/2008 6:56:01 PM)
it ought to say "does being a fellow Obama supporter mean I agree[...] that we shouldn't subject[....]."
I have no personal history with George BARKER (Lowell - 2/4/2008 8:34:50 PM)
Where on earth did you get that from?!? The person in question is George BURKE, and if you want to understand why his presence on the list would make many of us very angry, simply follow the link I provided.
Lowell, I followed the link (aznew - 2/4/2008 9:14:29 PM)
and I think the salient question is whether you are, in fact, a Commissar? :)
Ha, that brings back great memories! (Lowell - 2/4/2008 9:41:52 PM)
(not)
What's with the troll rating for Silence Dogood, Lowell? (Kindler - 2/4/2008 10:26:11 PM)
I respect both Obama and Clinton supporters and see no need to drive the latter away from this blog.
Keep your eyes on the prize -- driving the Repubs out of power with a UNITED Democratic party.
It's not a troll rating. (Lowell - 2/4/2008 10:30:33 PM)
I rated it "unproductive," which is what the comment was. Just for you, I raised it to "marginal," which it is for the bizarre comment about George Barker, who I never mentioned and who I have always gotten along with well.
on a lighter note (WillieStark - 2/4/2008 7:36:34 PM)
Scarlett Johannson is the only reason I need to vote for Obama. Seriously she is far too hot for her own good.
Amen. (MikeSizemore - 2/4/2008 8:28:16 PM)
He should cut a commercial with her in it.
Clinton staff (sjaakm - 2/4/2008 9:36:25 PM)
Many of the people on the list used to work for the Clinton administration. They probably want to get back in.
I don't like including Joannou in this... (MikeSizemore - 2/4/2008 10:43:07 PM)
We're supposed to be the Big Tent party, right? There is enough room in my tent for the more moderate and conservative members of the party.
George Burke on the other hand....
It's not that Joannou is conservative (Lowell - 2/4/2008 10:49:03 PM)
It's that he's corrupt. See
here and
here, for instance.
I personally think you jumped the shark with this, Lowell (AnonymousIsAWoman - 2/4/2008 11:04:25 PM)
It's ridiculous. Here, let me rate myself troll and save you the trouble!
You do also realize (AnonymousIsAWoman - 2/4/2008 11:08:35 PM)
that Larry Byrne, Leslie's husband, and a bunch of other very good people whom you usually like are on that list?
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one (Lowell - 2/5/2008 6:29:26 AM)
I think it's a legitimate story, in fact an important one. Why you think it's "ridiculous" is beyond me; I think what's ridiculous is the Clinton campaign putting together a list of one major Webb basher, one corrupt delegate, one person not authorizing her name, former student government people, etc. Compare that to Obama's endorsers -- the governor, former lieutenant governor, 10 state senators, 17 delegates, Mayor Wilder, the entire Democratic congressional delegation, etc. True, there are some excellent people on the Clinton list, but c'mon now, I could put together a list of 500 people who "endorse" Obama ("activists," bloggers, volunteers, etc)...what's the point?
What's ridiculous is (AnonymousIsAWoman - 2/5/2008 10:25:32 AM)
guilt by association. Vote for Obama because George Burke is for Hillary? And then you link to the letter that both you and Ben Tribett signed about Burke. Yet Ben's also a Hillary supporter. Does that now make him Burke's ally? That undercuts your argument, which isn't much of an argument.
I don't disagree with Obama as the choice. I endorsed him!
I've persuaded four people to vote for him, one in New York today; three in Virginia on Feb. 12. And I did it without ever once saying anything nasty about Hillary or trashing her supporters. In fact, if I had done that, those people would have tuned me out before I made my points about why Obama is the best choice.
All I disagree with you about are your tactics, not your ultimate conclusion.
We've got one of the most inspirational and charismatic candidates in a long while so why are we spewing anger and vitriol instead of extolling hope? Which set of emotions do you think is more effective in getting out Obama's message?
No, what's ridiculous is the list itself (Lowell - 2/5/2008 10:30:27 AM)

I think Ben's head is gonna explode (Rob - 2/4/2008 11:22:37 PM)
