If you live in Fairfax County and will be unavailable to vote on Tuesday 12 February in the primary here in Virginia, The League of Women Voters has distributed an e-mail with important instructions:

Absentee ballot applications can be picked up at county government centers and libraries, or you can fill out an application on line at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/e... and after filling out the form and printing it,  you can FAX it in.  All completed applications must be signed and then mailed or delivered to the Office of Elections, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 323, Fairfax, VA 22035, or FAXed to 703-324-3725.

Deadline to apply by mail is  5 PM on 5 February.

Deadline for an absentee vote to be counted: All mailed Absentee Ballots must be received at the Office of the Electoral Board by 7 PM on Tuesday 12 February.  Questions in Fairfax, call 703-222-0776.

In-person absentee voting for primary is offered only at  Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 323, Fairfax, from 8 AM- 6 PM Monday through Friday until 8 February, and also on Saturday 9 February 9AM to 5PM.

Prediction: Lines will be long on primary day, so plan ahead and don't forget to bring your ID if you vote on the 12th.  Polls open 6 AM to 7 PM (I'll be working my precinct 6 AM to 9 AM, how about you?)

If you are not registered in Fairfax County, and need similar information where you vote, contact your jurisdiction's Office of Elections.

If you do forget your ID (Glant - 1/29/2008 9:42:56 PM)
While it is easier if you have your ID with you, voters should know that they can vote even if they forget their ID.  Under Virginia law, a voter without ID must be allowed to vote if they sign an affadavit affirming their identity.  The affadavit forms should be available at every polling place.
