10,000+ People at Obama Rally?

Today was the rally for Barack Obama with Caroline Kennedy and Sen. Ted. Kennedy at American University's Bender Arena. The good news is that the 6,000-seat arena, plus overflow areas, were both packed. The bad news is that thousands of people -- a line stretching way down the street, around the corner, etc. -- couldn't get in. All told, there must have been 10,000 people there today, waiting for hours, who WANTED to see Barack Obama. I heard that some AU students even camped out overnight. Truly amazing.
Anyway, here are my photos of the scene outside Bender Arena, prior to the rally. I just wish I got in! Sigh...
And one REALLY confused person!

He did not get in the rally either. This is a force of nature!
Good God this was only announced yesterday (Todd Smyth - 1/28/2008 10:09:48 PM)
The details didn't come out until yesterday morning. That's an amazing crowd for such short notice. I think no one has accomplished more for the poor in America than Ted Kennedy but I'm surprised Caroline was not the head liner? I was so happy to sit down at lunch just as Patrick was introducing his dad (on TV). I was at the Penthouse lunchroom at HHS in DC and I shushed the crowd so some of us could hear.
Those scenes look familiar (KCinDC - 1/29/2008 2:06:19 AM)
I was in that line too. It was about 3/4 mile long when I joined it. Like you, I didn't get in, but I'm happy about the amazing turnout. I ended up watching the speeches on MSNBC with a group of 25 of my fellow refugees in a media classroom in the basement of the library, so at least I was on the same campus as the event. Afterward I caught up with Lee Diamond, who had gotten in, and some other people for lunch.
