2008 can be a pivotal year for the Commonwealth. For the first time since 1970, we can have two... TWO... Democratic United States Senators! We can add more Democrats to our Congressional delegation. And Virginia can help elect a Democratic president!There's a lot going on this year and we're hoping that YOU will join us NOW in getting organized for a new Blue Dominion!
There are 8 things in '08 you can do:
* 1. Be a Part of the Message Squad!
This is an action-oriented team of people who will help spread our message of "getting things done" across the Commonwealth. Join the Message Squad and you can help us with our rapid response strategy to all the attacks we're bound to see from opponents to our Congressional candidates and Democratic presidential nominee. If you're on the Message Squad, you'll get regular messaging updates from TRUTH memos to talking points. Sign up here to be a part of the Democratic Party of Virginia Message Squad!
* 2. Join us for the 2008 Jefferson-Jackson Weekend Grassroots TrainingFor those of you anxious to get organized for the new Blue Dominion, we're hosting a grassroots and leadership training on the weekend of the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and Celebration! Come join us and get the tools you'll need to turn Virginia blue in '08. Find out how we plan to win the Commonwealth and the White House! Learn how to build a grassroots force or become a delegate to the National Convention. The training sessions take place all day Saturday, February 9, 2008. Sign up here.
* 3. Buy your tickets to the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and Celebration
This year's program is scheduled for February 9! There are a variety of ticket options still available. Dinner tickets are sold out online, but they may still be available through your local Democratic committee. Contact your local committee by going to our website and checking the peach GO LOCAL tab on the right. But the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and Celebration is much more than just the Saturday evening program! Get to Richmond Friday night, check in to one of these hotels and get started with us as early as Saturday morning with the Women's Caucus Breakfast, the annual awards luncheon, and several training sessions for both party leadership and grassroots activists!
* 4. Tell us why YOU'RE a Democrat!
Each and every one of us has different reasons for being a Democrat. What's yours? Submit a :15-:20 You Tube video expressing your reasons for being a Democrat, and you might show up on the big screen at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner. Here's how you do it: If you have a YouTube account, watch Del. McClellan's video and then post a video response. If you don't have a YouTube account, watch the video anyway and sign up. IT'S FREE!
* 5. Sign up to volunteer for '08!
Whether it's going door-to-door for Mark Warner or making calls for the Democratic presidential nominee... sign up here to be a part of our team of volunteers!
* 6. Help us elect Mark Warner to the United States Senate
If you want to get started NOW helping Mark Warner, help us make sure he gets on the ballot! We need folks to go out and help collect more than 20,000 signatures before April. You can download the forms and instructions right here!
* 7. Track your lawmakers with Assembly Access
Republicans in the General Assembly have constantly blocked efforts for a more open state government by refusing to record their votes in subcommittee meetings. That's why the House Democratic Caucus has started videotaping these meetings. With Assembly Access, you can see who showed up at subcommittee meetings (and who didn't), as well as who voted how... when no one was looking.
* 8. Finally... VOTE ON FEBRUARY 12!
On February 12, Virginia voters will head to the polls to nominate a Democratic (or Republican, if you happen to vote that way) candidate for President. As it stands now, your choices are Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, or Dennis Kucinich.
From 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, you can go to your normal polling place to vote. Again, that's on FEBRUARY 12, 2008!
The primary also helps determine who goes as a delegate to the August 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver! If any candidate receives AT LEAST 15 percent of the votes, he/she will be given a certain number of delegates for the National Convention. So if you're interested in attending the convention, the FEBRUARY 12 primary is especially important.
