Edwards supporters go for the gold

Edwards has been getting the Rodney Dangerfield treatment lately- not a lot of respect from the media.

In the recent debate in Nevada, he did get a seat at the table but was given the least amount of time to talk about his position on the issues.

Now there is even a study, by the Project for Excellence in Journalism that studied campaign coverage for Jan 6-11. The study found that Edwards received only 7% of the coverage,

less than 1/5 of Hillary's coverage, and less than 1/4 of Obama's.

So if you like Edwards' progressive message-consider helping with this -  an idea developed by a fellow blogger - not the campaign.

Just posted the following with a contribution at DKos (oldsoldier - 1/18/2008 2:28:55 AM)
McCain's military service is already being swiftboated by the republican whatever machine.

Edwards never served but as far as I know didn't evade, and if he did evade, he didn't get his mill worker daddy to keep him from maybe getting killed for whatever God and country beliefs were worth getting killed for when Dubya was protecting the skies over Texas and Cheney was pursuing other ways to serve America.

I wanted to puke when I saw those a**hole wearing big American Flag lapel pins.  Neat thing about those pins, you don't have to do anything to earn them.....INDEED, just like many, if not most of our politicians, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BUY THEM.

NO ONE, including me, has BOUGHT John Edwards, and I'm not sure about his opponents.

Being politically incorrect most of my life with strong ideas for underdog, I was asked a long time ago when I was still fairly young, why I didn't run for public office.  My response was "I don't want to be a Senator, BUT I wouldn't mind owning 5 or 6 of them, and I think THAT IS JOHN EDWARD'S MESSAGE to the DEMOCRATIC Voter.  Go for proven performance of a sort or HOPE as urged by Hillary in the former or Obama in the latter.  How do we avoid a McGovern nomination of either Hillary or Obama if McCain is able to pull off the republican nomination?

I'm tired of democratic "experts" from losing campaigns like Donna Brazille, Paul Begala, and what's his name that's married to Cheney's biggest supporter and ex-chief of something or other.  Cannot we find a way to win without having to Hope or jump to the middle in the primary?

I hope and pray John Edwards gets in there and saves not only veterans but active military from the businessmen who now run the Pentagon.

Jim Webb is my senator and I hope he stays in that role, not sure what his considerations are for endorsing Edwards, but, once he works through them (I'm about 5 years or so older than he is) I really hope he'll do whatever he can to help Edwards as the military/defense/veterans candidate if Edwards can win either NV or SC or come in very strong second, given the way the media has farted his efforts off.

John Edwards is my man, and I saved what I could donate till the 18th, just in case you KOS Commie-Pinkoes had a really good idea for once, and then I whipped out my credit card to put my money where my military mouth is.

FINALLY, What candidate, if elected, will give serious study and consideration to CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM?

$$$'s for boots on the ground (VA Breeze - 1/18/2008 2:36:26 AM)
I like Edwards fighting spirit as I like Webb's! It is time for some serious change
in this country and it will be had to do if you have taken money from industry for years.

He is 54 - that means that he was probably a senior (totallynext - 1/20/2008 6:16:10 PM)
in 1973 - 1974.

The Vietnam war was closing and the draft was stop in 1974.

So I would venture to say - he didn't have to do anything.

$100.03 (thegools - 1/18/2008 1:14:48 PM)
I just gave that to Edwards, and ordered some bumper stickers too.

I find it very interesting how the same crowd (on this website) that came out so heavy for Webb in 2006 can be so split between candidates, especially given that it is Edwards who speaks most similarly (in my view) to the ideals that made Webb popular on this site.  Of course we all have our reasons.

I fear that the excitement of having a woman and black man as candidates has increased their press and support above what is justified based on the ideas that come out of their mouths.  It is a hypothesis but, I have this feeling that if the appearance and gender of the candidates were unknown, many people (on this site &) across the country who support Clinton and Obama would have their support squarely behind Edwards.

That said it is comforting that this country has come to the point where a black man and a woman have a real shot at becoming president. It make me feel warm inside to think about it, but I do not support candidates based on such feeling.  I prefer to live by the ideal set down so eloquently by MLK, Jr. that we should not "just a man by the color of his skin but by the content of his character."

   Thus, I support John Edwards.

Those to whom Edwards' is speaking...the disenfranchised, the poor (Dianne - 1/18/2008 1:33:52 PM)
I just got back in from the elementary school where I volunteer each week, helping children with their reading.  The school is in a very "underserved", to say it politely, part of my county.  Families there live without indoor plumbing, one family lives in a trailer where part of the floors are missing, little girls come to school in flipflops in the winter, many, many of the children have never had a book in their home and come to school without ever having had someone read to them.  I could on but I think you get the picture.

John Edwards is the candidate who bravely speaks for these people and has pledged to help them and I believe him.  And I admire him so much for having had the nerve, in the "me, me, me" America and in a political campaign, to champion and speak of the poor. They are out there and he knows it and he wants to do all that he can to uplift them, to give them a vision....

Why Edwards gets ignored (Hugo Estrada - 1/18/2008 3:03:43 PM)
Our corporate media dislikes people talking about our economic realities. Whoever stands up and talks about economic fairness will get ignore and when paid attention, ridiculed.

That's probably part of it, but... (Lowell - 1/18/2008 3:07:08 PM)
...I think even more of it is that the corporate media can't walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone cover more than 1 or 2 things at once.  Thus, we have the simple story line: Clinton vs. Obama, woman vs. African American, blah blah blah.  How does Edwards fit into that simple-minded narrative?   Apparently he doesn't...too much for poor, stressed out reporters and editors to handle, apparently.  Just like their pathetic coverage of global warming and so many other issues. Lame.

I think what you say is a big part of it. (thegools - 1/18/2008 3:37:48 PM)
But it doesn't explain why some of the same major polling and media outlets who have recently omitted Edwards from news and surveys continue to include the likes of Thompson and Rudy in their polling and news coverage.  This despite the fact that neither Rudy nor Thompson have received even half the votes that Edwards has received in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Something else is at work here too.

Another contribution for Edwards (Hugo Estrada - 1/18/2008 3:07:14 PM)

Thank you from the campaign (VA Breeze - 1/19/2008 10:13:11 PM)
{This is from the johnedwards.com blog:
David Boniar, national campaign manager:

Thank you!   On behalf of John and Elizabeth Edwards and our entire campaign, I want to thank everyone who made a contribution on Friday, January 18th.  In particular, I want to thank all those from the netroots community for rallying to our side at a time when we need it most.  Thanks to you, we received several thousand contributions on Friday - and more than half of those contributions were from folks who had never before made a donation to our campaign.

As a result of your support, Friday was one of the best online fundraising days ever for our campaign.  And, importantly, the great majority of those contributions will be eligible for matching funds, doubling the impact of your extraordinary effort.

We appreciate every contribution and every contributor to our campaign.  We know many of those who have given to this campaign do so because they see that John is fighting for them - for their families and for the American dream we hold close to our hearts.  Thank you for continuing to stand with John, and for helping to get out his message of bold, transformational change.
