Virginia - Who REALLY cares about global warming?

As of today, I have nine names for you.  These nine legislatures have already co-sponsored the Clean Energy Future Act, Senator Chap Petersen's bold plan for Virginia.  Are your elected officials on board?  Have you contacted them yet?

CO-PATRONS OF SB446, The Clean Energy Future Act, as of 6:30PM, Jan 15th
+ Senators Chap Petersen, Roscoe Reynolds, and Patsy Ticer
+ Delegates Adam Ebbin, David Englin, David Poisson, Joe Bouchard, David Toscano, Margaret Vanderhyde.

Not a bad start, but we're missing some of our champions like Creigh Deeds and Brian Moran.   If your delegate or senator isn't there, Ask them to co-patron the Clean Energy Future Act. . If we are going to win this bill, we need to work hard, and work together. The committee vote could be any day, so write to them TODAY!

Now, this ain't bad for one day of grueling work walking the capitol (honestly, I had fun). But it would be a lot more fun if I had company.  So come on down and join the Chesapeake Climate Action Network and VCN for Clean Energy Lobby Day

CLEAN ENERGY LOBBY DAY is this Monday, January 21st.  Yes, I know its MLK day - what better way to celebrate you day off them to join with other concerned citizens to try to save the climate.  Register today..

Have any more updates on this great bill?   Write to josh[at]chesapeakeclimate.org.  The climate needs all the help it can get, and so do we.

BWT - This bill will go through the Commerce and Labor Committee in the Senate.  None of them are currently co-sponsors.    If you know them, show them some love.

Mark Herring, Don McEachin, Chuck Colgan, John Edwards, Yvonne Miller, Toddy Puller , Phil Puckett, Frank Wagner, John C. Watkins, Tommy Norment, William Wampler, Steve Newman, Walter Stosch, Ken Stolle.

Caputo... (Eric - 1/15/2008 9:10:10 PM)
Let's see where Caputo stands on this one.

Unfortunately he was on the WRONG side of a number of important issues last year (Transportation, Dominion, Smoking) .   Being a Delegate is tough and it should be expected that a few bad votes come with the territory.  But if this trend continues, it's time for him to go and we need to start recruiting a primary challenger for him in 2009.

Where are my General Assembly members? (TheGreenMiles - 1/15/2008 10:04:10 PM)
I live in the heart of the People's Republic of Arlington. My legislators, Al Eisenberg and Mary Margaret Whipple, are supposed to be the liberalest of the liberals. Why aren't they  co-patrons? I'll have to give them a call in the morning and find out.

MMW (goVAdems - 1/15/2008 10:38:35 PM)
Yea, where is Mary Margaret Whipple? She is the Chair of the Senate Democrats and has been a key player on RPS for a lot of years.

My guess is without her you don't get Moran or Deeds. RPS is her issue, they won't go against her.

MMW hasn't said no... (joshtulkin - 1/15/2008 11:28:50 PM)
But she hasn't said yes either.  Thanks to whoever posted that she has been a champion, and is now in leadership.  But is when we need her more than ever. I suspect that leadership is being told to stay away from this bill.

Let's keep up the pressure.  We know what this fight is about, and all we got is constituent power - so lets use it.
