The political gut. (Bernie Quigley - 1/14/2008 7:46:54 AM)
In politics, the gut has to be satisfied and that has been the job of Fox News these past years. This bonding they are doing here with Huckabee will however destroy the Republican party because the gut cannot lead and will only led to disaster as it has is Iraq. There was a great moment on Fox news a few weeks back when they interviewed Ron Paul, attempting to accomodate him and insinuate him as a lesser player in their catalog. Paul, in response to a question about Huckabee using religious symbols in his campaign, instead cited Upton Sinclair's observation that when this country became fascist it would be wrapped in the American flag and carrying a cross.
Bloomberg is watching this: what he is planning is not so much a third party as a replacement party - with Huckabee and Romney and I would add Bush, there is really nothing left of the traditional Republican Party. Picture a replacement with Bloomberg as POTUS, Christie Whitman as VP, Sam Nunn as Sec. of State and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Chief of Staff running against Huckabee and Jeb Bush.
Perhaps it's time (Lowell - 1/14/2008 8:21:17 AM)
for a Teddy Roosevelt Republican Party to replace the current bastardization? Whatever the GOP is now, it's certainly not anything Teddy Roosevelt -- or Dwight Eisenhower, or Gerald Ford, or Barry Goldwater for that matter -- would approve of. And it's certainly not the party I joined when I was a Teenage Republican back in the mid- to late-1970s.
