It is lonely at the top, but for Del. Dave Albo (R-42), it is the best place to get work done. Albo is now the senior Republican legislator from Fairfax County, following the retirement of Del. Vince Callahan (34) last year. While each year might start with the hopes of being easier than the last, Albo knows the work just keeps coming.
"There's a lot of responsibility that came upon me that used to be carried by Vince, especially with the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, but I'm ready for it," Albo said.
While he disagrees with Democrats who believe last year's transportation plan does not go far enough to fix the problems that plague the region, Albo believes he, along with Dels. Tim Hugo (R-40) and Tom Rust (R-86), are better equipped for tackling the issue than Democrats want to admit.
"I know that the Democrats all want to beat us, but if they tried to get rid of myself, Tom and Tim, they'd be dust in terms of transportation," he said.
...Great. Dave Albo thinks he's our savior, at least in terms of transportation. I, for one, would prefer that he leave us alone--we don't need his kind of help. And the Connection doesn't seem to be helping us much, either.
