With a fare hike looming, U.S. senators from Maryland and Virginia are renewing their call to give Metro dedicated federal funding.[...]
[Sen. Ben] Cardin, Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland and Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia are urging the Senate to take up legislation introduced last year that would provide Metro with $1.5 billion over 10 years if D.C., Maryland and Virginia match the money.
I believe this is known in technical terms as a "no brainer." Congress should pass the legislation immediately. While they're at it, they should also put in an amendment that REQUIRES Metrorail to Dulles but only funds it if there's a TUNNEL in Tysons Corner. Last I checked, Congress did have the power to make laws, right? Well, I see no reason why they can't make this one.
