After Norfolk's Sheriff McCabe gave him a genuinely warm introduction, Senator elect Northam reviewed the themes and common sense positions which attracted so much support during the campaign. These included the environment (emphasizing the Chesapeake), education, health care, transportation, and Governor Kaine's pre-K initiative. Most disarming is the manner in which he addresses each issue thoroughly, thoughtfully, and succinctly. He also addressed his motivation to run at all, describing his calling as something of a realization that he had an obligation arising from his own experiences, successes, and belief that he has something to offer.
Clearly heartfelt was the appreciation expressed to the members of his medical practice, together since 1992, who answered the call with him and shared the burden so that he could run this successful campaign, never detracting from the care his patients have come to rely upon. Now they continue as he goes on to serve in the legislature. He highlighted and underscored his appreciation for the support of his family, in attendance of course, throughout this effort.
