Tim Kaine's Iowa Caucus eve message for Obama

Our governor sent this email to his PAC supporters today, including this link to Obama's website:
Virginia hasn't voted for a Democrat for president since 1964.

But you and I know that Democrats are on the rise here.

Virginians are tired of the same old games. We're hungry for excellence in the next president -- excellence in character, in intellect, and in judgment.

That's exactly what Barack Obama has shown, from his time as a community organizer working with churches in Chicago to his service in the U.S. Senate.

I support Barack because he inspires me. But that's not the only reason.

I also support him because I'm a practical person. I want to win -- and no Democrat has a better chance of winning Virginia and winning the White House in 2008 than Barack Obama.

Now's the time to get involved. There's incredible grassroots energy among Obama supporters here in Virginia, and I hope you'll join us at this important moment:

Whether you look at the polls that show he's the Democrat who can beat every single Republican candidate or you listen to the stories from his overwhelming base of support among Democrats, independents and even Republicans, it's clear that Barack can and will win in every part of the country.

This movement is a beautiful thing to see.  Rank-and-file Democrats are fired up, and people who haven't participated in politics before are engaging for the first time.

Barack Obama is the right candidate to be president -- and he's the right candidate to revive our democracy and bring more people into the process.

With your help, we can make Barack our Democratic nominee.

And with him at the top of the ticket in November, we'll make history.

Thank you,

Tim Kaine

Say goodbye to Gov. Kaine if... (mikeporter - 1/3/2008 7:54:43 AM)
Obama becomes the nominee and wins the presidency.  Obama would definitely appoint Kaine to a position.

But ... (Rob - 1/3/2008 11:22:02 AM)
I think they can work out the timing so that Kaine can fill most of his term.  Obama would take office in Jan. 2009.  He could nominate Kaine a few months later, meaning that Kaine would be stepping down with just a half year or less remaining (during the gubernatorial campaign when he'd be a lame duck anyway).

Right, but that would still make (Lowell - 1/3/2008 11:26:07 AM)
Bill Bolling governor.  Ugh.

More fun speculation: (Rob - 1/3/2008 11:56:45 AM)
But just briefly.  Assuming he isn't the nominee for Gov. or loses the general -- maybe McDonnell beats him out.

Agree -- still a shirt term "ugh."  My pref would be for Kaine to finish his term and then get nominated to the 4th Circuit.  If he doesn't want that, then maybe wait until later in Obama's term to get a cabinet position (maybe even Obama's second term).  That way, he can make some money for a few years and then transition over.

More speculation fun:  what cabinet position do you think he wants.

Tim Kaine for VP? (cdgoin - 1/5/2008 3:06:49 AM)
Lets see the first Governor to endorse Obama, big fund raiser for Obama, Went to Iowa and New Hampshire to stump for him, He is a good speaker, has executive experience, from a red state, and a likeable person...

Yep... if he isnt the VP if Obama wins the nomination.. he has to be on the short list.
