New Poll: McCain Takes Lead in NH, Clinton Pulls Ahead

With the Iowa caucuses just 48 hours from now, it's easy to forget that New Hampshire's crucial, first-in-the-nation primary comes just 5 days later.  Based on the latest poll results, things are looking great right now for John McCain and Hillary Clinton.

McCain 31%, Romney 25%, Giuliani 14%, Huckabee 9%
Clinton 36%, Obama 22%, Edwards 14%

Note that John McCain surged from 19 percentage points since early December, moving from second place to first place, ahead of Mitt Romney.  On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton went from a 7-point lead to a 14-point advantage over Barack Obama.  Assuming this poll is correct, it looks like if Mitt Romney loses Iowa, he's in serious trouble.  It also looks like Obama or Edwards HAVE to win Iowa, or else they're in deep you-know-what.  We'll know in just over 48 hours.

P.S. In other news, Dennis Kucinich has urged his supporters to back Barack Obama in Iowa.  In the Des Moines Register poll, Kucinich was at 1%.

A lot will happen after Iowa (humanfont - 1/1/2008 11:25:13 PM)
If McCain pulls a 3rd place or higher finish in Iowa, then he will be unstoppable in NH.   He will then sail to the nomination as the Republican comeback kid.
If Obama wins convincingly in Iowa he can just come close in New Hampshire, he doesn't need to win it.

Outlier (DanG - 1/1/2008 11:43:21 PM)
I'm of the opinion this poll is an outlier.  Every other recent poll shows a much closer race.  Those sources are much more credible as well.

Sorry, but I simply don't buy these results.  Both Iowa and NH are neck-and-neck.

That says what I've known all along.  Barack is both the progressive with the best chance of winning and the one with the best chance of bringing the country together.

To be honest, I don't know why we're talking about polls.  May the best candidate win.  Hopefully, the one who has done the least spinning.  The one who has gone out there and told a personal story while also sharing a vision for our future.
