It's Monday after the Elections and newspapers are still wrestling with the results.
The Hampton Roads Pilot has a blow-by-blow recap of Kilgore's loss. Apparently, in Hindsight, it should have been obvious all along.
The conservative Human Events Online sees two of Kilgore's failings as key. While according to New Jersey Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Douglas Forrester, the reason for the magnitude of his loss is none other than our embattled president.
Looking back, no recap of the election would be complete without revisiting the dynamics of the newly Democratic exurbs. While many are astounded at Kaine's upset in Loudon and other Exurbs, Progressive pundit David Sirota figured out the math here months ago: Red + Green = Blue.
While Tuesday left Democrats riding high in the Exurbs, it left the free-lunch "No Tax" crowd zero-for-two, as both delegate candidates were soundly defeated.
Furthermore, support for the vital center of politics has the Republican Party fracturing, as Moderates tire of the radicalism of the far right:
Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), a former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the current fixation on conservative voters may jeopardize his party's prospects for holding on to some of its seats. "If the leadership just plays to the base, they're going to be a minority leadership in the next Congress," he said.
Looking forward, Tim Kaine is wasting no time making the rounds. He campaigned on a the issues of Transportation and Education. Kaine getting his transportation message out. The Fredericksburg Free Lance Star says that success in forming coalitions will be the key to a successful term in office for Tim Kaine.
And looking far forward, the Pilot chonicles Mark Warner's rising star. Also, Time Magazine named Warner one of the nations 5 best governors. 2008 feels closer every day.
There are two other items of particular interest in the region. First, the good news: the Dalai Lama delivered a simple message of peace yesterday at the MCI center. Then the bad news: the Chesapeake Bay is really sick.
Finally, in the AG race, Deeds is still down by only 410 436 votes out of nearly 2 million. There are areas where sample ballots are not allowed on Election Day. Virginians of conscience must take action in those areas to make a change.
