How Could You NOT Vote for Phil Forgit?

Over at the Electoral Map, Patrick Ottenhoff calls this "A Decisive Day in Virginia History."

Which Virginia will show up today: Warner's Democratic converts or the heirs of the old Democratic Party, now under the banner of the GOP, who ruled here for decades on the platform of despising Lincoln's Republicans?

Polls indicate that it'll probably be Wittman, but if history tells us anything it's that this district should never be overlooked and is never easily won.

I've already gone to vote for him. My precinct wasn't too busy, but it wasn't bad.

I was number 34 at 7:30 this morning. So I think thats pretty decent. I think this is more than possible! I saw all kinds of Forgit signs in the neighborhoods around town.

We can make it happen.

Also Done! (NGB - 12/11/2007 10:06:06 AM)
I was 116 this morning in Berkeley in Williamsburg at 8:30.  I think that will equate to turnout in Williamsburg on the higher end of what the campaigns were predicting (13%-20%)

In 2007, Berkeley precinct in Williamsburg (Lowell - 12/11/2007 10:11:21 AM)
had the following results:

Jo Ann Davis: 852 (59.5%)
Shawn O'Donnell: 568 (39.6%)

For Williambsurg City as a whole, Davis beat O'Donnell much more narrowly, 50.73%-47.93%.

In other words, Berkeley is a strong Republican precinct, while the other precinct -- Stryker -- is strongly Democratic.

Oh, and turnout was 56.24% in Williamsburg City in 2006.

Those were 2006 numbers for Davis/O'Donnell (NGB - 12/11/2007 10:22:51 AM)
Major differences between Davis/O'Donnell and this race.

(1) The exact opposite geographic issue.  Forgit from here, while O'Donnell not.  Davis from Gloucester, while Witmann from NOVA.

(2) Extremely low turnout, (20%), compared to 2006's (56%).

(3) No incumbent.

(4) Webb won Berkeley in 2006.  57% voted No on Marriage amendment in 2006.

This is not a Republican precinct.

Berkeley went for Bush-Cheney (Lowell - 12/11/2007 10:28:05 AM)
56.4%-42.8% in 2004. Stryker went for Kerry-Edwards 58.1%-40.8%.  Williamsburg City went for Kerry-Edwards 51.30%-47.78%.

Hmmmm.

So your point is... (NGB - 12/11/2007 10:30:02 AM)
When Democrats lose Berkeley they lose Virginia.

When Democrats win Berkeley they seem to win Virginia.

I guess it's a toss-up, but one that Forgit must win in order to win.

Stryker is more Democratic because of all of the students.

Warwick Precinct in Newport News... (lgb30856 - 12/11/2007 10:26:13 AM)

Update from Mathews County (Lowell - 12/11/2007 11:05:37 AM)
Courtesy of don mikulecky on Daily Kos.

We were out there at 6 AM and set up the canopy and the literature table for Phil Forgit for congress.  Turn out was light, but there seemed to be mostly Democrats.  The Republicans had no one there so we had the place to ourselves.  Either they are so confident that they feel like they don't have to bother, or they are sitting this one out.  There is a third, independent candidate who calls himself "a true conservative" and that may have a message in it as well.

We go back later until the polls close and then we gather at someone's house to await the count.  I wish I could say more about how the rest of the district is looking, but I feel pretty good about Mathews.  We will soon know.

Interesting.
