Over at the Electoral Map, Patrick Ottenhoff calls this "A Decisive Day in Virginia History."
Which Virginia will show up today: Warner's Democratic converts or the heirs of the old Democratic Party, now under the banner of the GOP, who ruled here for decades on the platform of despising Lincoln's Republicans?Polls indicate that it'll probably be Wittman, but if history tells us anything it's that this district should never be overlooked and is never easily won.
I was number 34 at 7:30 this morning. So I think thats pretty decent. I think this is more than possible! I saw all kinds of Forgit signs in the neighborhoods around town.
We can make it happen.
Jo Ann Davis: 852 (59.5%)
Shawn O'Donnell: 568 (39.6%)
For Williambsurg City as a whole, Davis beat O'Donnell much more narrowly, 50.73%-47.93%.
In other words, Berkeley is a strong Republican precinct, while the other precinct -- Stryker -- is strongly Democratic.
Oh, and turnout was 56.24% in Williamsburg City in 2006.
(1) The exact opposite geographic issue. Forgit from here, while O'Donnell not. Davis from Gloucester, while Witmann from NOVA.
(2) Extremely low turnout, (20%), compared to 2006's (56%).
(3) No incumbent.
(4) Webb won Berkeley in 2006. 57% voted No on Marriage amendment in 2006.
This is not a Republican precinct.
Hmmmm.
When Democrats win Berkeley they seem to win Virginia.
I guess it's a toss-up, but one that Forgit must win in order to win.
Stryker is more Democratic because of all of the students.

Too Funny~
We were out there at 6 AM and set up the canopy and the literature table for Phil Forgit for congress. Turn out was light, but there seemed to be mostly Democrats. The Republicans had no one there so we had the place to ourselves. Either they are so confident that they feel like they don't have to bother, or they are sitting this one out. There is a third, independent candidate who calls himself "a true conservative" and that may have a message in it as well.We go back later until the polls close and then we gather at someone's house to await the count. I wish I could say more about how the rest of the district is looking, but I feel pretty good about Mathews. We will soon know.
Interesting.
