Democratic House Leadership Team for 2008-2009

Today, House Democrats met in Charlottesville to select their leadership team for the 2008-2009 General Assembly sessions.

The caucus leadership team includes:

House Minority Leader: Delegate Ward Armstrong of Henry County
House Caucus Chairman: Delegate Brian Moran of Alexandria
House Caucus Vice-Chairman: Delegate Lionel Spruill of Chesapeake
House Caucus Secretary: Delegate Mark Sickles of Fairfax County
House Caucus Treasurer: Delegate Jeion Ward of Hampton
House Caucus Sergeant at arms/Parliamentarian: Del. Rosalyn Dance of Petersburg
House Caucus Political and Campaign Committee Chair: Del.  Kris Amundson of Fairfax
House Caucus Policy Chair: Delegate Vivian Watts of Fairfax County
House Caucus Senior Whip: Delegate Adam Ebbin of Arlington County

"We look forward to working with Governor Tim Kaine and the leadership in both chambers of the General Assembly to keep moving Virginia forward," House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong said. "We have significant challenges facing our Commonwealth and now is the time to look for moderate, fiscally responsible solutions."

"Our leadership team is diverse and from all regions of the Commonwealth," House Caucus Chairman Brian Moran said. "We intend to promote a positive vision for the people of Virginia this session."

House Democrats made their largest gain since 1975 in the 2007 General Assembly elections increasing their caucus by four seats to 44 members winning in long time Republican strongholds of Prince William County and Virginia Beach.

Thanks for the post Lowell...I second your opinion about it being "a great team...talented and diverse"... The only one I don't really know is House Caucus Sergeant at arms/Parliamentarian: Del. Rosalyn Dance of Petersburg

Quick thought on those I do know:
Ward Armstrong and Brian Moran made a great team for the election season and are both fully committed to leading Virginia forward ... Lionel Spruill is an impressive human being with a steadfast desire to make things fair for everyone ... Mark Sickles knows politics and is determined to help working families .. Jeion Ward is a class act who really knows education ... Kris Amundson is one of the most caring individuals I've ever met ... Vivian Watts really knows how to make things work ... Adam Ebbin brings humanity with him wherever he goes

All in all I'd say this is a very balanced leadership team that we can all be proud of ... House Democrats deserve major kudos for their choices    



Lowell - what is your speculation for Armstrongs future? (totallynext - 12/9/2007 5:13:18 PM)
I am very new to Virginia politics / elected officials and was quite impressed with him in this last cycle.  What are the rumors for his future political endeavors?


He was first elected to the HoD in 1992 (Lowell - 12/9/2007 5:20:24 PM)
Since then, he's risen to become minority leader.  He's only around 50 years old, so I'd say he's definitely got a promising political future ahead of him!

I've been represented by Ward since he was first elected to the HOD. I'm confident saying that I do not feel he has aspirations for higher office. The man wants to be Speaker of the House and hold his seat until retirement.
