FAIRFAX, VA, DECEMBER 3 - Virginia's 11th Congressional District
Democratic candidate Doug Denneny was formally endorsed for election
to the U.S. Congress by fellow Iraq War veteran Congressman Patrick
Murphy (D-PA).
"To change direction in Iraq, we need strong voices in Congress who can
speak with real world experience," said Murphy. "From aircraft carriers
to Fairfax County, Doug knows the issues - none more so than the war in
Iraq. As a fellow Iraq War veteran, Doug is uniquely prepared for this
job and I know he is ready to continue his public service and join the
fight to bring our troops home."
Murphy has pledged to join with friends and supporters to help Denneny
campaign and raise money to win this seat.
"I'm honored to receive this very important endorsement from
Congressman Murphy, who admirably served his nation in war and now in
Congress as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, "said
Denneny. "Citizens across Northern Virginia have been supporting me
and my campaign because they know that only I will be able to beat any
Republican opponent, and only I will be able to speak strongly about
the war and other issues important to the voters in the 11th
District."
Focusing on change as the central theme of his campaign, Denneny wants
to improve the district and the nation for this generation, and future
generations. Denneny pledges that once in Congress he will fight for:
GÇó An immediate and smart phased withdrawal from Iraq,
GÇó Access to affordable health care for all Americans, and
GÇó Pragmatic solutions for the growing transportation challenges in
Northern Virginia.
"It's no secret that our country faces enormous challenges. We need to
begin a smart, immediate phased withdrawal of our troops from Iraq.
Our mismanaged federal government has brought ridicule, scorn and
economic problems to our Nation," said Denneny. "We need to ensure
access to health care for all Americans. We are in serious need of
Medicare and Social Security reform. Our dependence on foreign oil and
fossil fuels threatens our national security, and our environment"
About Doug Denneny
Retired Commander Doug Denneny served in the United States Navy for
over twenty-two years and is now ready to serve our nation in
Congress. A combat veteran of the Iraq War and a former TOPGUN flight
instructor, Denneny served as a naval flight officer, commanded a
fighter squadron of over 200 people and was awarded the Distinguished
Flying Cross for valor in combat.
Upon returning from Iraq, Denneny worked directly for the Chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, giving him a first-hand account of the
complexities of this war and the need to create an exit strategy to
bring our troops home safely. He also served on Capitol Hill as a
legislative fellow and as a legislative liaison for the military.
Locally, Doug is president of his large neighborhood citizens'
association, serves on two Fairfax County Boards, and volunteers for
several civic organizations.
Denneny graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received his Masters
degree in National Security Studies and a certificate in legislative
studies from Georgetown University. He currently works for Boeing and
resides in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife and two children.
