In last Friday's Richmond Times-Dispatch, the Mayor of Warrenton -- best known for the "Warrenton miracle" and for dramatically slashing his town's real estate tax rate -- slammed Jerry Kilgore's assessment cap proposal as nothing more than "hokey-pokey designed to get him elected."
Today, Chris Graham quotes Fitch in his Augusta Free Press slamming Kilgore even more harshly:
As attorney general, Jerry Kilgore hid in the coat closet while the General Assembly was hitting Virginia's taxpayers with the largest tax increase in history, and now that he wants to come to the dance as a candidate for governor, he is promising to limit hikes in real-estate tax assessments to 5 percent beginning in 2009, if approved by a constitutional amendment...The tax bill for every Virginia homeowner will continue to rise sky high. Every Virginia homeowner's tax bill will go up by hundreds and hundreds of dollars under the Kilgore's plan."
Ouch! The truth really hurts, doesn't it Jerry? Apparently, your proposal for Big Government to set the values of our homes and protect us against the horrors of appreciation has not won over your Republican rival. Nor will it win over the rest of Virginians once they get a good look at it - and you!
As one astute RaisingKaine reader suggested recently:
Just a thought, but if everyone went out and voted for George Fitch (Republican) in the Primary in June, then we would pretty much guarantee that Jerry Kilgore would not be around in November. Things that make you go hmmmmm. Think about it. Would you rather have this in November: Kilgore (Republican) Kaine (Democrat) Potts (Independent) or would you rather see a ballot that looks like this: Kaine (Democrat) Fitch (Republican) Potts (Independent) Think about voting for George Fitch in the Primary on June 14th.
That's right, Jerry, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings...and until people actually VOTE two months from now. In the meantime, you've got at least one opponent who's just "Fitchin'" to fight. How about a debate? Or are you going to spend the entire campaign running from "Cool Runnings?"
