Many of you have received a mail piece that looks like it is from Russ Potts and a robo call that seems to be from Tim Kaine. I thought you would like to know the following information I've received from the Kaine campaign team. This should, indeed, cause us all to redouble our GOTV efforts. --Libby--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the Potts piece, the Democratic Party of Virginia has filed a complaint about the Potts piece with the State Board of Elections and there will be an expedited hearing on Monday. I expect there will be a fine and referral to the Commonwealth?s Attorney that we will be able to publicize widely. DPVA has already put out a press release denouncing the piece. Russ Potts has already blasted Kilgore for the piece and Potts? statements received publicity on the AP wire that resulted in stories in newspapers and on TV/radio stations around Virginia. Our campaign?s communications team is talking with press regularly about the other side?s tactics with some favorable stories for us as a result. We are aware of the robocalls. They are splicing together statements Tim has made and taken them completely out of context. They string together ?conservative? statements that they use in robocalls to liberal areas and ?liberal? statements that they are putting into robocalls for conservative areas.
They will stoop to anything to try to get elected. We will continue to run TV and radio spots in which major newspapers from all regions of the state blast Kilgore for running a negative, false, and sleazy campaign. These ads have had the effect of causing people to take all of Kilgore?s attacks with a large grain of salt.
We are also seeing that the Kilgore tactics appear to be depressing Republican enthusiasm for Election Day. Already we were polling much better among Republicans than Kilgore was among Democrats and we have a solid lead among independents.
We continue to run well in our polling, so these tactics seem to be backfiring on Kilgore yet again.
If everyone keeps working hard on GOTV through Election Day, we should be able to keep the Governor?s Mansion in good hands and keep Moving Virginia Forward.
On to victory!
