P.S. Just a reminder that I am consulting for the Judy Feder campaign. I also strongly supported Judy last year, when I was NOT consulting for her. Why? Because I thinks she's an extremely impressive person, a dedicated public servant, and a superbly qualified candidate to represent the 10th district in Congress. Plus, it's time for Frank "Bush Rubber Stamp" Wolf to go, and it's time to replace him with a Congresswoman who is capable of thinking for herself, not just voting in party lockstep like Wolf (on Iraq, stem cells, you name it).
The 10th district could have no better representative. Just two things worry me about Judy:
1) she lives in the extreme Eastern end of the district - an easy target to cut out in 2011 redistricting.
2) she's not enough of a politician. It pains me to say it, but Frank Wolf has been around for 27 years +, he knows the game, he'll give false answers, he'll appease special interests and the like... he's a hard target.
It's tough work getting such a genuine person as Judy Feder elected go congress, but it's noble and necessary work. I support Judy in the primary, and I hope I can volunteer for her sometime next summer.
But, there is another good Democrat who is seeking the nomination to run against Frank Wolf. Mike Turner.
Until election day, Mike was Precinct Operations chief for Loudoun Democrats. You can see the great results of his work, as many folks have already pointed to the successes that Democrats had with elections to the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.
If you like Jim Webb, you'll like Mike Turner. Mike is a retired Air Force Colonel, and his views of the Iraq war sound very much like Jim Webb's.
In other words, Mike Turner looks like a better fit for the 10th Congressional District.
No, I don't believe the 10th CD is as blue as some would like it to be. Frank Wolf is not as dumb as George Allen, and will not make a fatal mistake like the Macaca incident.
As in the past, the large block of independent voters in the middle will determine the winner in 2008, and a lot of them still like Frank Wolf. Which candidate, Feder or Turner, has the plan to change their minds?
In other words, which Democrat, Feder or Turner, is more electable in the 10th Congressional District of Virginia? Seems obvious to me.
A fair primary is in order, but my lot is behind Ms. Feder.
