James Brady, himself a Marine veteran of the Korean War, has dedicated his personality piece to the Marine son of our Junior Senator. The piece is entitled In Step With Corporal James Webb and if you get the Washington Post on Sunday parade magazine is part of what you receive.
The lead in is great:
In honor Veterans Day, James Brady spoke with a brave combat veteran just back from Iraq and possibly returning for another tour.
The sidebar piece (at the bottom of the page linked ab ove as "Brady's Bits") describes the incident where there was an IED that blew up when Jimmy's group was on patrol. And there are a few nice quotes in the main piece, such as I asked Webb what kept Marines inspired when the going is toughest and people back home are questioning the war.
"We have faith in our traditionally good leadership, faith that they will not get you killed for a dumb reason," he told me. "And when you get to square off against an enemy that hits you continually from the shadows, you almost want to prove a point. It's saying, without words, 'Now you're playing my game.' "
While most who will read this posting are opposed to the war, it is helpful to be reminded of the mental toughness of those who take on the task of fighting upon the orders of our leadership.
Peace.

It's a nice article (Catzmaw - 11/10/2007 2:45:10 PM)
He sounds like a very sensible and dedicated young man, and should be applauded for putting himself on the line as his ancestors before him have. There are those among our young who still understand the concepts of duty and sacrifice, and no matter what one's position on the war, we should be glad to have such as Jimmy Webb to answer the call.

...and to your great Dad too!
Thanks TK, very appropriate on today, the Marine Corps Birthday, and look forward to reading the article as we get the Parade in Hampton Roads also.
Great find, "TK"! (cycle12 - 11/11/2007 4:19:35 PM)
