[UPDATE by Lowell: Here's a sneak preview of lines from tomorrow's speech by Ted Hontz.
"WHAT A DISGRACE THAT THE RICHEST NATION ON EARTH HAS 47 MILLION PEOPLE WITHOUT HEALTH CARE - ALMOST SIX MILLION OF THEM VETERANS."
"IMAGINE WHAT WE COULD DO IF WE TOOK THE $9 BILLION A MONTH WE'RE SPENDING ON THIS ILL-CONCEIVED WAR AND PUT IT TOWARD AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE AND TOP-QUALITY EDUCATION FOR EVERY AMERICAN."]
[UPDATE #2 by Lowell: More snippets from the speech.
"MY STRONG RECORD OF CREATING AND PROTECTING 650 JOBS IN MY COMMUNITY SHOWS THAT I KNOW WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO THIS DISTRICT. AND I AM THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO HAS LIVED AT BOTH ENDS, NORTH AND SOUTH. TEN YEARS IN HAMPTON ROADS. SIXTEEN YEARS IN STAFFORD AND KING GEORGE."
"OUR DISTRICT MUST UNITE BEHIND A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE. THIS RACE IS TOO IMPORTANT TO HAVE A DISTRICT DIVIDED. AND I AM THE MAN WHO CAN UNITE US."]
[UPDATE #3 by Lowell. Yet more snippets from the speech.
"THE TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND HAMPTON ROADS IS NOT JUST A MESS. IT IS A MATTER OF HOMELAND SECURITY. I WILL SEEK FEDERAL RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON THE I-95 AND I-64 CORRIDORS."
"THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT COMMUTING TO AND FROM JOBS. IT'S ABOUT MAKING SURE THE NATION'S CAPITOL IS SECURE, AND I'LL MAKE THAT CASE ON THE FLOOR OF CONGRESS."]

Right now, I don't know much besides this video...
This is directed at anyone who runs in this or any race. This blog has just provided the platform. My comments are not meant to establish a side in this race.
Running against the Republicans and the President has run its course. Talking about needing and having good ideas and new ideas is fine, but exactly what are they? Time to lead rather than only criticize.
There are critical issues of national security at stake and the war is, albeit huge, only one of them. This economy is faltering. All of us stand to lose if the immigration debate becomes a flashpoint for racism. There are the issues raised by Lowell.
We all have to do better than rely on sound bites.
Dear Friends and Fellow Democrats:I believe Ted Hontz is the best candidate to represent the First District of Virginia in the House of Representatives during the 2008 session and I ask you to support him in the First District convention.
Every knowledgeable person I have talked with, from the National to the District level, agrees that we can win this special election to fill the seat of the late JoAnn Davis if the Democratic Party presents a candidate who meets the test of maturity, experience, and credibility. Ted exudes Character, Candor and Competence and that's what this election is going to be all about.
Americans, Republicans and Democrats, are fed up with politicians and politics, frauds and phonies, greed and corruption, perceived or otherwise. They recognize from the economy to the battlefield the Last Remaining Superpower is sliding into the doldrums of mediocrity. As a result Americans are looking for demonstrated leaders tested, purified and tempered in the fire of conflict that have the credibility, courage and wisdom to challenge and change the status quo. I am convinced that Ted meets that measure and will answer that calling.
Sincerely,
