Just got back from Arlington Democratic Headquarters where I did some 21/51 phonebanking for Steve Heretick. Steve is running for state senate in Virginia's 13th district, which covers parts of Isle of Wight County, Prince George County, Southampton County and Surry County, as well as the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Portsmouth and Suffolk. He's up against Republican incumbent Fred Quayle (no relation to Dan).
The prognosticators aren't giving Steve a great chance of removing Fred's sizable butt from the seat in which it's been planted for 16 years now. But it's an amazing sign that I was even assigned to make the calls. That meant that Arlington Democrats had been so energized and organized to phone bank that all the calls for candidates like Chap and Janet in closer races had been completed over the weekend, freeing us Monday nighters up to help out the longer shots. Maybe 21/51 isn't so far out of reach ...
