Just saw a negative ad (jiacinto - 11/4/2007 3:39:20 PM)
on immigration against Bill Day. I fear that the Republicans will win crucial races because they actually chose to crack down on those who don't belong here.

Well the Catholic Curch is known for two things at least in politics (Used2Bneutral - 11/4/2007 4:17:42 PM)
Pro-Life and Sanctuary..... everybody knows about the Pro-life issues, but the hispanic and other immigrant communities are the basis of a lot of Sanctuary situations and those people that are citizens and voters are coming out in force Tuesday.... They are pi$$ed off at the profiling and other persecution the legal immigrant community has ungone for this artificial diversion of attention that which has been whipped up by the GOP to off-set the bad feelings about the war and Bush in general. I have activist friends in those ethnic communities and they have been just waiting to get even for the hell they have been living through even when they are completely legal and in many case actual registered voting citizens..... Just like the Macacca episode last year, their fury will be seen Tuesday because they do have a score to settle and they have the ballot box to do it with.

Warning: Look for voter challenges (Teddy - 11/4/2007 7:28:27 PM)
by Republicans, especially in Pr Wm, of hispanic-named voters. I sincerely hope Used2Bneutral is correct in the overwhelming turnout of hispanics for Democrats, but I fear that the Republican machine (and Save Manassas) will be primed to stifle it. Voter intimidation, caging, Florida reducs.

No, Republicans have done NOTHING (Lowell - 11/4/2007 5:55:46 PM)
Facts:

1. Republicans have been in charge of the White House for 19 of the past 27 years.

2. Republicans were in control of Congress for most of the period 1994-2007.

3. Here in Virginia, Republicans have been in control of the General Assembly since 1999.

4. During this era of Republican control, undocumented (aka "illegal") immigrants have flooded into this country by the millions.

5. Republicans have done NOTHING about it, such as cracking down on the corporations that hire and exploit undocumented workers.

6. Republicans receive millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the very companies that employ and exploit "illegal" immigrants.

7. Today, having accomplished absolutely nothing on immigration, they have the chutzpah to claim that THEY are the ones better suited to fight illegal immigration.

8. Any voter who believes the Republicans on this deserves what they get.

Wrong (Pain - 11/4/2007 6:27:31 PM)
Republicans have once again found one button they can push with their base, and they pushed it.  What they have or are proposing to do is an empty promise.  It's more politics of fear which is their normal operation.

Talking about the GOP's exploitation of the immigration issue:

In the course of this ugly crusade, many Republicans have tended to downplay the tough issues that they might really be able to do something about over time . . .

That's what it is -- an ugly crusade.
