Hate Mail and Defacing of Campaign Signs Just a Few of the Desperation Tactics that Ken Has Used to Hang On to his State Senate Seat
FAIRFAX - In what is a new low during the 2007 election for State Senate, Ken Cuccinelli and supporters are defacing Janet Oleszek's campaign signs and writing hate mail directly to the candidate.
"Our signs have been stolen straight out of our supporter's yards for months now and we've been dealing with that on our own, but defacing a sign and leaving it up for the whole community to see is just despicable," said Oleszek campaign manager Jonathan Murray. "Ken Cuccinelli and his supporters must be incredibly desperate to stoop this low. They should be ashamed of themselves," he continued.
In what may even be a more startling turn of events, hate mail was sent directly to Janet Oleszek, a mother of two and an at-large Fairfax County School Board member.
"Ken Cuccinelli needs to issue a statement immediately and condemn this hate filled rant. Whether he knew about this email being sent or not, voters deserve to see the kind of people that are supporting Ken," said Murray.

As you know I am NOT a big fan of 'mass' e-mails; however, we are only 3- short days away from Election Day and it's important we get the 'right' people in place. This is one of several e-mails I have sent to solicit your support for Mr. Ken Cuccinelli.
As I have said before, and I will say again... Ken Cuccinelli is someone that not only has my respect but my complete support.
Now let's talk about Janet "oh my God is she an ugly liar" Oleszek. First and foremost as a woman I have to say, having a woman, like her, in office would do NOTHING for woman period. I personally want a woman in office I could absolutely be proud of... that clearly, under no uncertain terms, is NOT Janet. No... Janet is NOT for Fairfax... Janet is for Janet; that's it and that's all. Janet knows she can't win fairly so what does she do... this sorry excuse for a human lies and tries to smear the good name of Ken Cuccinelli. How original... growing a brain would do this woman A LOT of good. And Janet's unprofessional, dishonest and nasty behavior that speaks volumes as to what you can expect from Janet, this monster, in the highly unlikely event she would ever be elected. Unfortunately for Janet her disingenuous, unprofessional and unethical behavior can NOT begin to discredit what an amazing person Ken Cuccinelli truly is. Janet needs to grow up, find some morals, buy some ethics... and, most importantly, while she's at it Janet should absolutely consider a face lift. Have you seen her? Janet gives a whole new meaning to the word F-UGLY.
Back to Ken... Ken is PRO-Family... PRO-Virginia... PRO-Fairfax... and Ken Cuccinelli supports you, the good, honest, tax paying citizens of the 37th District.
Re-Elect Ken Cuccinelli, a man who will do right by you...

Some signs of Democratic Fairfax County Supervisor Penny Gross (Mason District) have also been defaced, with the word "Re-Elect" covered with a sticker that says "Reject".
Don't the Repubs believe that their candidates can stand on their own merits -- without having to resort to such childish acts?

Friends who are so repelled by such "sick, twisted" public hate speech they will get up, go out, and vote for you.

That campaign was on fire the last two weekends with hundreds of volunteers and the signs on the ground look pretty good.
It all started because Ben Tribett had a personal spat with Jonathan Murray, her campaign manager, and despite Ben and Janet being friends, he seems to have it out for her campaign.
With friends like that, who needs Cooch!?

Ironic, isn't it. We know that Ben was part of the vetting process and approved Jonathan. My theory is that Ben thought Jonathan would do his bidding and couldn't accept being shut out. From what I've seen, Jonathan and the entire campaign staff are top notch. I've been *around* politics for more years than I care to admit, and their field operation is amazing. Ben doesn't know how to find the high road.

I can't tell you how many signs have been stolen in Fredericksburg. And it's all candidates signs, so it's not like it's the work of just one Republican's supporters.

Seriously, I seem to see this from the GOP side every election. I rememebr in 2006 there were Allen supporters who would deface Webb signs in Rockbridge County and Nelson County. And in 2005 I remember Kilgore supporters "accidentally" knocking down Kaine signs when putting up their own.

You know, I'm growing so tired of hearing candidates describe themselves as "pro-Fairfax" or "pro-Virginia" or whatever. I understand being pro-life or pro-death penalty, but what the heck is "pro-Fairfax?" Does that mean the person is pro-immigration, since there are many immigrants moving to Northern Virginia? Or pro-rich people, because Fairfax has one of the highest per capita income rates in the country? Is it pro-growth, because Fairfax is certainly doing that, or is it pro-smart growth, because Fairfax is trying to do that? Ugh, it's just stupid language, but it irritates me.

Signs are disappearing here in PWC too. Four Colgan signs were taken from my roadfront. So I replaced them with five more.

someone recently defaced one of Corey Stewarts signs. The sign said, "fighting illegal immigration" below his name.
Someone made a slit between the first two Ls in "illegal," then folded it back, so the sign then read, "fighting legal immigation."
Monday on FPA Channel 10 is their annual "Dirty Tricks" show (Used2Bneutral - 11/4/2007 4:37:58 PM)
Every year the night before the general election they run a show highlighting the identified dirty tricks that have been seen so far by then and many from last year that will probably show up again as always..... Also, they have an "Open Studio" policy and any candidate from Norther Virginia is invited to just walk in and except for the last ten minutes of the show, they will get a chance to address their potential constituents and their volunteer workers one last time before the poles open the next morning. It usually is a pretty good show. This year because of Verizon FIOS cable it will be carried live in Loudoun and Prince William as well....
George Burke will be hosting with several candidates confirmed and a couple of guests as well.... it should be a nice way to wind down before the chaos the next morning starting for most of the campaigns at 4 AM.....

Most of these signs, in addition to being flammable, are single-sided. Two of them are often put back-to back.
Supplies:
2 4x6s to serve as victims
Scissors
Bucket of epoxy glue
Spray paint (optional)
Cut one 4x6 loose, flip it around. Place glue on the front side of the other 4x6. Paste together so that only the blank sides are showing. Feel free to write a cheery message (e.g., "Re-Elect Senator Ken Cuccinelli. NAMBLA ENDORSED!") on the blank surface to liven it up.
Serves 12 angry Republicans.
Alternately, you could just paintball the suckers.

The Coochmen (aka Henchmen) apparently have nothing better to do than assault Oleszek 4x6's. There were four of them that had been knocked down or blown down last week--3 on Faifax County Parkway, and one on Old Keene Mill Road. The one on old Keene Mill and one of the 3 on Ffx Cty Pkwy were KNOCKED OVER again last night. It was not that windy last night.
Well, better they're out creating mischief than talking to voters.
They are just sad, insecure, hateful little minions of legislative do-nothingness.

What can one expect from a State Senator who is so totally and completely classless that he can't even answer a question posed by a constituent. Instead he uses profanity and states that the question is "a shitbag"
question. Can we expect much else from his campaign? These people would stop at nothing to be elected. There are Republicans out here in Sully District bragging about their kids having a bounty of $2.00 per sign to be brought to them. They ALL think they are above the law!!! So what else is new? It's just more of the same. Are you Republicans sure you want these people representing you?

It was just like that. Physical intimidation of opposition workers. Stealing of signs. (I had one stolen off my front lawn as I happened to be looking out the window -- got the lic. plate number and called the police and got the sign back.)

We actually had people camp out last year - When Allen's henchmen kept stealing a WEBB sign from a retired military individuals tree on Mt. Vernon hwy.
Got naugsty. Put one thing that is never talked about is the purging by County personell - It should be posted, when and where the signs can be picked up.

Ben Tribbett just posted that all other signs on this hillside were destroyed, that it has gone on throughout the campaign to signs of both parties, and the only reason Oleszek's sign was defaced and not destroyed was due to the very solid anchoring job done. He says in part:
"Now, Janet and staff know it wasn't Kens campaign or even a Ken supporter because Ken's billboards (which were next to Janet's) were torn down and obliterated by this guy at the same time."
Just thought I would pass this along, because it seems the sign busting in this campaign has had its devotees on both sides of the aisle...

Bwana, hers had been the only sign up there for several days. Sure it was anchored, but it could have been cut from the frame. Someone very deliberately took the time to deface it rather than cut it down.

And last year, Republicans like BVBL had up pictures of desecration to Republican candidates' signs. So did some of the other Republican blogs and they explicitly made an issue out of the very same thing.
I do not think that Ken Cuccinelli authorized any of this, nevertheless when it occurs it should be pointed out. Not because we are trying to slur Cuccinelli or hold him responsible for the dirty tricks of some of his supporters but because Republicans will try to make a case of guilt by association when this is done to them.
It is simply a useful defense measure to put up the proof that both sides have to endure nonsense from supporters who go to far.

All the signs along Braddock Road in Willow Springs headed west into Newgate are sliced into pieces.
Down closer into Springfield some pranksters painted over part of the "P" in the Pat Herrity 4x6 signs. The "Fat Herrity" campaign was not amused, and returned to paint it back.
That particular hill at Shirley Gate and Braddock routinely sees sign cleanups that leave a pile of signs in the ditch at the bottom. That location is within a stone's throw of the Springfield District on three sides (Leehigh to the north and west, Popes Head to the south), and is physically located in Braddock, so it's a very popular place.

....the reason will be voter apathy toward this election. Cause his crusadors are out there and his yard signs way out do Janets. But the adds telling the truth about Ken's anti stem cell agenda and his support for banning abortion even if a father rapes his daughter are powerful. Now will the Dems show up and put this freak show out of office or not? If we show up he can pack his bags and go visit Eric Robert Rodolph in prison. This guy does not represent his districts views. He's just got a lot of right wing hate built up.
