Holtzman Vogel Campaign Having a "Gay Old Time?"

This is hilarious:

The husband of a self-described "pro-traditional marriage" Republican candidate has made more than $500,000 by lobbying for a corporate leader in gay media programming, PageOneQ has learned.

Jill Holtzman Vogel, a candidate for State Senate in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, launched an advertising campaign Thursday touting her position as a "strong voice for pro-family" legislation. Holtzman Vogel's husband, Alex, is a high-profile D.C. lobbyist and a key advisor to his wife's campaign.

While his wife runs a campaign with strong anti-gay messaging, Alex Vogel continues to serves as a lobbyist for gay-friendly Viacom, which broadcasts shows condemned by conservatives such as Queer as Folk, The L Word, TransGeneration, and the cartoon Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple In All The World.

By the way, the guy who wrote this, Mike Rogers, is the blogger who reported on former Congressman Ed Schrock in 2004 and Sen. Larry Craig's activities in Union Station in 2006.  Oh, and before we get into charges of "gay bashing," Rogers is gay himself.  The issue here is hypocrisy, nothing more, just as with Vogel's husband on illegal immigration

Oh my goodness... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/2/2007 1:47:33 PM)
I wonder if he's spent any time with Larry at Union Station!?

I love Rick & Steve!  It's hilarious.  Especially the lesbian couple....

The best episode was when Steve taught the baby to say "BUSH!".

You think the Holtzman Vogels watch it? (Lowell - 11/2/2007 1:56:09 PM)
Ha. :)

Maybe--it is after the kids' bedtime, I'm sure!

Wow, what a bunch o' hypocrites, though.  I wonder what the ol' glorious Virginia "Some" Families Foundation would have to say about this.  I'm sure they'll just sweep it under the rug, kinda like they do with Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Maf56, and that guy Wayne Besen caught in Mr. P's (an old DC gay bar) after he was the national Ex-Gay spokesperson (was it Paulk?).

Hip-hop-o-crites, indeed!

And now, a screech from Jill Vogel (David Weintraub - 11/2/2007 7:47:04 PM)
And wouldn't you know it, Jill is having a fit. Here's an excerpt from her URGENT ALERT:

"Our values are under assault. Recently my family was attacked yet again by Schultz's liberal friends because I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman. Schultz's allies have even gone so far as to post pictures of my children on gay websites and blogs!"

Well, that would be bad. Unfortunately, the "pictures of my children" turn out to be the same family photo that she uses on her own campaign materials, the one she mails to every household in the district. Give me a break.

Did someone from the Some Families Foundation write this? They like to mischaracterize things and use lots of exclamation points, too!!

The real threat to our moral fiber? (Kindler - 11/2/2007 9:08:53 PM)
When it comes to defending family values, Republicans never lay a glove on the media corporations and their advertisers, who make BILLIONS off of programs that are oozing with sex and violence.

No, it's easier to blame the entirety of America's moral decline on little non-profits like Planned Parenthood that, with their puny budgets and volunteer staffs apparently have the power to destroy civilization on their own...

I'm thankful (JD - 11/2/2007 10:33:43 PM)
for her husband's good work.  I love Queer as Folk.

And I love how the picture and headline highlights the hypocrisy, and nothing more.  Because it would really suck if you were just using "gay" as an insult.

It would really suck... (Lowell - 11/3/2007 6:04:37 AM)
If you have read this blog at all the past two years, you know that we are vehemently opposed to homophobia in any way, shape, form, kind, etc.  You also know what we support full rights -- not "special rights," as the Republicans like to say -- for every citizen, gay or straight.  That's what progressives believe, quite a contrast from how "conservatives" like Tricia Stall feel about gay people.

I wonder what Russ Potts is thinking now (PM - 11/3/2007 9:18:45 AM)
Mark Tate, Vogel's opponent, was a known troglodyte.  Is Vogel, internally, really as vile as her campaign ads?  I have to take her ads at face value -- that she really is.

Did she really take part in an engineered attempt to have Tate indicted?  An indictment that was later dismissed?  If so, she is a fan of the worst form of totalitarianism.

Anyone ever read M. Scott Peck's "People of the Lie?"  About people who are superficially respectable, even pillars of the community, but privately are destructive of others?

So, my question is -- is this moral degradation for the sake of winning an election by appealing to Tate's supporters, or is she really that low?
