Women Lawmakers to JMDD: Apologize for Putting Chap's Children in Danger!

I just got off a conference call with State Senators Mary Margaret Whipple (31st), Patsy Ticer (30th), Janet Howell (32nd) and Toddy Puller (36th), as well as Delegates Vivian Watts (39th) and Kris Amundson (44th).  These are all six female members of the Northern Virginia Democratic caucus.  The purpose of the call was to demand a public apology on TV by Jeannemarie Devolites Davis for putting Chap Petersen's children at risk (by her mailing that gave out their names and phone number).

Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple said she was "horrified" at the way JMDD had "crossed the line" by "bringing children into potential danger."  Whipple added that it is "extremely rare" for someone to send out a piece of "critical, hateful literature" and "draw attention to children."  And to make matters even worse, JMDD then said Chap's children were "in play" -- and yes, that remark has been confirmed as having been made by JMDD, despite her attempt to lie once again and claim the reporter made it up.  Whipple said that JMDD "crossed a line that should never be crossed."  As women and mothers, the six legislators feell that JMDD should apologize publicly, on TV, for her deplorable actions.

Kris Amundsen pointed out that doing what JMDD did is more dangerous today than it used to be, as there are people with serious "anger issues" out there.  Toddy Puller (I believe) commented that she was "appalled" at this "aggressive campaigning run amok" by the Davises.

The bottom line is that JMDD crossed a line that should never be crossed.  She needs to apologize, and she needs to do it now.  The 6 women legislators are sending JMDD a letter demanding that she do so.  Don't hold your breath waiting for a response.

Here's the letter (Lowell - 11/2/2007 11:00:50 AM)

Great Letter! (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/2/2007 11:21:51 AM)
I am so proud of my Senator and Delegate!

I hope one of them (or both) will consider patroning a bill in both chambers to make this illegal, and perhaps base the bill on federally defined Personally Identifiable Information (PII) which would include address, phone, and any other personal identification, account, or private information, from the Privacy Act legislation.

Shameful (Not Harry F. Byrd, Sr. - 11/2/2007 5:35:23 PM)
Politicians are one thing, but their families, especially children, should be off limits.  I could understand if Sharon Petersen was working for a donor or lobbyists (say like ICG/Devolites) perhaps that might be an issue, but picking on a stay at home mother and 3 school age children is horrible.

How mean spirited.
