NYC Police Officer's Family Looks for Apology from Bloomberg

Newsday reports:

The father of New York City Det. James Zadroga said his "heart broke" when he learned Mayor Michael Bloomberg publicly said his son, a Ground Zero first responder who died of pulmonary disease, was "not a hero" and abused drugs.

Now the Zadrogas want an official apology from the mayor and a chance to tell him in person about their son's slow and painful death.

Maybe Bloomberg can explain his remarks further when he comes to Virginia to endorse his fellow political chameleon today.

P.S. Maybe reporters can ask JMDD if she agrees with Bloomberg on the following:

*"Reproductive choice is a fundamental human right and we can never take it for granted, on this issue, you're either with us or against us."

*"I think anybody should be allowed to marry anybody"

*"I'm opposed to the death penalty."

*"It is as if we expect border control agents to do what a century of communism could not: Defeat the natural forces of supply and demand and defeat the natural human instinct for freedom and opportunity. You might as well sit on the beach and tell the tide not to come in."

He's never met JMDD? (PM - 11/1/2007 9:58:17 AM)
Every news account I've read says:

Bloomberg has not even met Devolites Davis, but has known her husband, Congressman Tom Davis, for years.

Tom's really pulling out all the stops, isn't he? Spending big money.  Calling in a friend.  But how persuasive is such support when you haven't even had a meeting with the candidate?

I don't think many people in the district know anything about the mayor, and I can't see this changing anyone's vote.

It won't (DanG - 11/1/2007 2:50:24 PM)
In fact, it can only hurt her.  Lots of the Republicans in the area remember Bloomberg ditching the party recently.  Not a great way to rally the base, ya think?

So much for Tom Davis having a great (Lowell - 11/1/2007 2:51:01 PM)
political mind.

Was thinking the same thing (Craig - 11/1/2007 6:00:10 PM)
I mean really, in local elections turning out the dedicated base is how you often win.  I don't see how a liberal-leaning ex-Republican helps JMDD at all in that sense.
