It's great that Phil Forgit became the first Democrat to officially announce his candidacy for the Dec. 11 special election to fill the vacant CD-1 seat. That makes him no. 10 overall. Nine Republicans have announced through this past weekend! They are:

*Chuck Davis, Gloucester: JoAnn Davis' husband, Retired Firefighter
*Paul Jost, Williamsburg: Virginia Club for Growth President
*Del. Rob Wittman, Westmoreland: Represents Pollard's old district in the Northern Neck
*Fmr. Del. Dick Black, Loudoun County: Rented a house in Fredericksburg to qualify
*Jim Bowden, Poquoson: Resigned as GOP 1st District Chair to Run
*Dave Caprara, Spotsylvania: Former Appointee of Gov. George Allen and both Presidents Bush
*Sherwood Bowditch, Gloucester: Director of the Virginia Association of Boys and Girls Clubs
*Catesby Jones, Gloucester: Founder of Peacefrogs (and Eileen Levandoski's sister-in-law's twin sister's husband)
*David Corderman, Fredericksburg: Retired FBI Agent

In only 12 days, the nominees for both parties will be chosen! The First District Democratic Committee will meet from 2pm to 4pm, on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel and Suites.

Besides Forgit, Lana Ingram sounds like a pretty serious candidate, even if the media hasn't pickep up on it. Lana is an active Spotsylvania Democrat and runs Virginia Semiconductor with her husband. She was appointed by both Govs. Gilmore & Warner to represent Virginia High Tech industries on international trade missions. She also serves on the Virginia Small Business Commission & the Commonwealth Competition Council. Lana has been a prolific fundraiser over the years and has the money to compete thanks to her successful business.

Right now I can't confirm if VCU Professor Dr. Deborah Brock, Retired Navy Captain Ted Hontz, Retired Army Brigadier General David McGinnis, or former Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) staffer James Romano are officially in or out on the Democratic side of things.

Black rented a house? (Teddy - 10/29/2007 10:26:56 PM)
Does this give him access to running to represent the District? Or does it make no difference? Is the great family values man abandoning his wife to live in Fredericksburg, and does he get his bills and other mail sent to the new address? Is this permissible (to rent a place in order to run for office, while maintaining a primary residence a few miles away?)

What an ego! What a stay-the-course guy! I suppose he assumes the people of Fredericksburg are panting to be represented by such a strange individual.

No, he didn't rent a house (Chris Guy - 10/30/2007 12:11:00 AM)
he rented an apartment: The Carpetbagger
