Roemmelt Continues Late Fundraising Surge

Haymarket - "The response was humbling."

That's the reaction of House of Delegates candidate Bruce Roemmelt (D-13) to the thousands of dollars contributed to his campaign by small donors. Roemmelt released a strong finance report Monday afternoon, showing contributions of $50,567.56 raised from October 1 to October 24.

"I know that if you ask you will receive, but I didn't expect this," Roemmelt said. "Checks kept coming with $25, $10, $50, $20. People couldn't give much, but they wanted to do their part to change the tone in Richmond."

While most of the $31,101.46 in cash Roemmelt raised came from 66 contributors who gave more than $100, $6,676.46 came from 122 people who gave less than $100. Roemmelt said those donors motivated him to loan the campaign $10,000 for the final two weeks.

"This year we've had 372 individuals donate to this campaign for change," Roemmelt said. "They are the heart and soul of this campaign.

"When that many people made that kind of commitment, I knew I had to go the extra mile in order to win for them."

Roemmelt received the endorsement of the Prince William Association of REALTORS and the Virginia Police Benevolent Association in October. He says his contributors and supporters represent a broad coalition that wants change in Richmond.

"We have business owners, the police, fire fighters, retirees, homemakers, labor unions and realtors," Roemmelt said. "They all want to know the General Assembly shares their priorities. They want better roads and better schools, and I will do whatever I can to make sure they get them."

Roemmelt says small events have been especially helpful this month. This evening he will attend a house party hosted by realtor Patrick Casula. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Brian Moran will be a special guest.

"People are paying attention," Roemmelt said. "If everyone who has told me they want a change in Richmond votes for me Tuesday, we'll win."

All the new residents of the 13th district will be changing the status quo (snolan - 10/29/2007 8:02:34 PM)
Completely unrestricted development in the 13th is dramatically changing the voter balance, for the better.  I am no fan of uncontrolled sprawl - but the new voters are more moderate, more willing to consider change, and not interested in a delegate focused only on their bedrooms.

Marshall is finally weak and Bruce may pull the upset victory of the election cycle.  Go Bruce!

I'm sending Roemmelt a contribution tonight. (pol - 10/29/2007 8:20:51 PM)
