Chuck Colgan Needs Our Help

Today's Manassas Journal is carrying a front page story, "FitzSimmonds Accuses Colgan of Dirty Politics". How ironc that Ken "Let's Make a Deal for our Drug Friends" Cuccinelli's former legislative director makes this kind of accusation against the most honorable of Virginia State Senators.

Are you able to spend some time calling at Colgan Headquarters?  Hang doorknob flyers?  Work at the polls on November 6?  If so, please contact the Colgan for Senate Headquarters, 9100 Church Street, Manassas - 703-396-7777.

It's time to step up everyone.  A Virginia State Senate without its #1 Senator is not something I want to consider.  We don't need someone like FitzSimmonds taking up where Ken leaves off.

Election Day (VaNative - 10/30/2007 7:45:09 AM)
Poll workers especially needed. Can you find a few hours to help us out in the 29th?

What exactly does a poll worker do? (snolan - 10/30/2007 8:20:45 AM)
I know that Election Officials have to behave non-partisan that day - they temporarily work for the county to run the election.  Did that last year, but not excited to do it again.

We expected, as Election Officials, to have poll watchers from both parties - but neither showed up last year (at least not in Mullen District), so I am not entirely clear on what they do.  I guess they check their own lists to verify no one is voting twice (of course the officials already do that, but redundancy is probably good.  Do they also help ID voters who are not out yet so the GOTV effort can get more and more targeted towards the end of the day?

I know what a precinct runner does - I've done that before.  You periodically check the turnout numbers from the officials, without disturbing their work, and report back to campaign HQ so people know how good/bad turnout is throughout the day.

Which of these is a poll worker, or are all of them?  Is it also the people outside the polls with literature to hand out?

I am spending the day working for Roemmelt.

Working at the Polls (VaNative - 10/30/2007 8:44:06 AM)
Scott, I should have clarified.  They (The Colgan campaign) are looking for people to hand out literature outside the polls, not people to work in an official capacity (although the county needs that too).  You can give as much time as you have available - I'll be working at one or more polls for 7-8 hours for Colgan, or perhaps more if I don't drop first.

The lot of a poll watcher is lonely and boring - necessary, but without much flexibility.  I personally prefer being outside even when cursed with bad weather.

Stopped in today and made calls (Pain - 10/30/2007 5:53:05 PM)
I work in Manassas and I stopped in this afternoon and made calls for a few minutes.  There was another person who came in for the first time while I was there to make calls too.

I'll stop in as much as I can until next week and lend a hand.
