*Jeannemarie Devolites Davis publicizes the private information of Chap Petersen's wife and children.
*Ken Cuccinelli talks to an elephant, perhaps about the potential legal difficulties he faces over failing to pay grantor's tax, failing to disclose financial transactions as required by law, and conducting shady deals with even shadier lobbyists.
*Jay O'Brien resorts to gay bashing in a desperate attempt to hold on against the surging George Barker.
*Jill Holtzman Vogel refuses to debate Karen Schultz, perhaps to avoid discussing the scandal involving Commonwealth's Attorney James E. Plowman (a supporter of Vogel), and former Republican candidate Mark D. Tate (now facing election fraud charges initiated by Plowman's office).
*Watkins Abbitt puts out a series of lies, damned lies, and misleading statistics about the superbly qualified Connie Brennan.
*Republican Delegates Todd Gilbert and Clay Athey resort to absurd, laughable (if it weren't so serious) attempts to tie Tim Kaine to Islamic terrorists! (no, this is not a joke -- according to Waldo Jaquith, "They've done so with the support of House Speaker Bill Howell, who's lent his staff to the cause.")
*Speaker Bill Howell says that LEGAL immigrants to Virginia "might not be accustomed to the 'shared values we have in Virginia.'" In other words, they often vote Democratic.
*Corey Stewart riles up anger, hatred and divisiveness in Prince William County while accomplishing absolutely nothing (the huge tax increase will come AFTER the election...or never).
*Tricia Stall and Nick Rerras froth at the mouth about public schools ruining our children and about demons, "feminazis," and other such insanity.
*Bob Marshall continues...well, let's just say there's a reason we call him "Sideshow Bob." My favorite moment from this cycle was when Marshall wasn't allowed to serve (because they think he's bonkers, pretty much) on the immigration commission that HE created!
*Tim Hugo makes the front page of the Washington Post for running an unethical TV ad which improperly cites a user diary on this community blog as the source of an anti-Simmons quote.
*The Washington Post accurately calls Jeff Frederick "a glib extremist," Marc Cadin "a free-luncher," and Mark Cole a "snake oil" peddlar.
*They all attempt to run away from their support for the hated "abuser fees" and from raising taxes through the "regional authorities."
There's lots more where these came from. Please feel free to add your own examples of Republican insanity!
This whole episode smells to high heaven, and I can't believe the Post or other reputable media have not published anything on it yet.
Voters need to know the type of business that elected officials are willing to engage in as a result of their entrusting them with such an honor as elected office. Ken Cuccinelli, as best I can tell at this point, does not deserve that honor or trust.
Also, there's always the ever-trusty Bob Marshall on stage at the PWC Committee of 100 saying that Bruce Roemmelt questioning his effectiveness and ethics is outrageous. That was rich.
Commonwealth Attorney Jim Plowman is stonewalling any and all questions about how he helped his political crony, Jill Vogel, by indicting her opponent, Mark Tate.
I got angry about it and decided to run a write-in campaign for Commonwealth Attorney.
I am asking others to write in my name for Commonwealth Attorney.
I asked Jim last week to explain himself, to tell me what he did and when he did it, and he told reporters that he has lots of thoughts but no public comments.
So you can only know what Jim thinks and what he did - if you can read his mind.
That's not an acceptable response from any public official.
It was the recent dismissal of the charges against Tate that made it crystal clear that the grand jury process had become tainted.
Before that there had been a lot to concern the community, myself included, but this dismissal was the clincher.
I was upset - as others were - that no one was coming forward.
Some told me they were writing in my name absentee.
I thought I had to do something myself. So that's why I agreed to a write-in campaign. I have had the support of Republicans and Independents and been endorsed by the Democratic Party this past Wednesday.
In the days since I announced, court officers and citizens have told me they agree.
I know this is anecdotal evidence but you tell me if you don't feel the same way.
Many have told me that we can't have a prosecutor - Jim Plowman - who appears to have his thumb on the scales of justice.
I was a federal prosecutor and a state prosecutor and I was Special Counsel to the Senate Judiciary and to the House Judiciary Committee.
I would never have indicted someone three weeks before an election.
I would never have discussed a pending grand jury investigation with a reporter - as is claimed by one reporter.
I am running for this job because I want to do the job. I want to restore the Commonwealth Attorney's reputation. I am not just running to make a point - although it is an important point.
I want to serve as the Commonwealth Attorney and make this the best public law office in the Commonwealth.
If you have any questions, write or give me a shout (703-771-8344). Suggestions and help won't be discouraged either.
Please do visit the web site we've assembled - www.writeinflannery.com - so you can get some sense of who we are and what we're trying to do.
You have to ask yourself, if we do nothing, will we be better off four years from now?
I think the answer is NO.
That's why I decided to run.
That's why I hope that you will take the time to write in my name - John Flannery - on November 6 - or tell your friends in Loudoun County they should consider doing so.
John
