We Want Huckabee!!! We Want Huckabee!!!

Democrats should do everything they can to ensure Huckabee earns the GOP nomination!
He'll finish what Bush started: the permanent destruction of the Republican party.
The pro-business, social-moderate, and libertarian wings of the party, while not centered in any geographical area as most populists are, will find a Huckabee nomination as the final nail in the coffin that Bush has been so busy nailing up the last few years.
A Huckabee nomination would also be a thorn in the GOP's side for at least the next two decades. George W. Bush, while just as great a man as anyone, has left the Republican Party in tatters and Huckabee would do naught but make the last few tears needed to completely splinter the GOP. Huckabee very closely resembles Bush in his policies and, frankly, I'm scared by that.
Bush and Huckabee are standard-bearers for the extreme so-cons that have hijacked the Republican Party in recent years. If any kind of conservatism is fading, it's the social variety. In this quickly evolving world, the ideas presented by social conservatism seem outdated. What people want now is government that focuses not on fighting proxy wars as the Baby Boomers have done incessantly, but officials that focus on solving problems. To use the terms of race42008.com poster DaveG, people want technocratic pragmatists.
Democrats have proven capable of adapting to this change in desires with politicians like Janet Napolitano, Mark Warner, Bill Richardson, Jim Webb, Bob Casey, and countless Congressmen and Women. Republicans, however, have been a little slower adapting to this radical change. With exceptions in the forms of Sarah Palin, Charlie Crist, Mark Sanford, and Richard Lugar, the GOP has continuously put forth Boomer proxy warrior after Boomer proxy warrior.
R.I.P. GOP: What a bloody mess you've left of this magnificent country. You won't be missed.

Underestimating Huckabee (tx2vadem - 10/29/2007 12:45:43 PM)
First, Time in 2005 rated him one of the
five best governors. Second, he has a very affable, disarming demeanor. That alone makes him the most dangerous of all the Republicans in the field. People are not likely to focus on his social positions as much as what a nice guy he is or how much they'd love to have a beer with him. And for most Americans, the social issues are not at the top of their agenda. He only needs to lay on the charm and talk about big ticket items. And he will provide a stark contrast to the rigid and rehearsed demeanor of Hillary Clinton.
Huckabee is the Republican's best hope of winning. Giuliani is the one Democrats should want to win.
I strongly agree with you about this. (Lowell - 10/29/2007 12:53:51 PM)
People who underestimate Huckabee are making a HUGE mistake.
Huckabee is convincing on economic disadvantage (The Donkey - 10/29/2007 2:18:21 PM)
and pulls off compassionate conservatism far better than Bush.
There is no "noblesse oblige" to this guy's presentation. He has lived economic pain.
But on new Christian social agenda issues like abortion, he is about as far right as they come:
Completely agree with you Lowell.
Huckabee is scary AND he's surging (Lowell - 10/29/2007 2:25:40 PM)
in Iowa and elsewhere. Watch. Out.
We shall see (tx2vadem - 10/29/2007 2:57:31 PM)
He is certainly getting a lot of attention lately. Does that mean he can win? There are a lot of contenders with good finances. Their race may actually end up as a brokered convention. Oh, but do they allocate their state delegates like Dems do?
And we may end up with a third party candidate: Ron Paul. He is sitting on a mountain of money, more than McCain has on hand. And the Paulistas are all over YouTube and MySpace.
The man believes in creationism (Rob - 10/29/2007 11:20:36 PM)
The indies would never vote for him.
Huckabee is a former Baptist preacher. (pol - 10/29/2007 9:33:25 PM)
Moderate Christian Republicans like him a lot. I believe he is dangerous.
So Far Look (Gordie - 10/30/2007 4:25:36 PM)
at what he has done with little money. He is right in the middle of the pack. and don't forget he has taken play books out of Clinton's wins in Arkansas. He looks like a person with a cat up their sleeve.
Yes, I agree with Lowell, he is the most dangerous candidate and one to keep an eye on. His latest remark, that their are WMD's that have not been found will certainly get the base behind him. Can he bring back the moderates that left because of Bush is another story. Personnally I think Hillary knows this and that is why she is debating with Rudy to help him get the nomination.
