Hillary's Support For Bush and The Iraq War

The Iraq war is clearly the top issue of the 2008 election campaign.  The war has decimated Bush's approval ratings nationally and particularly in red leaning states that Bush carried in 2004, which leaves opportunities for our nominee in 2008.  States Bush carried in 2004 like Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado and Nevada all appear to be within reach.  But we will lose a lot of Republican leaning independents and Republicans in general in these red states if we nominate Hillary.

Hillary voted to give Bush authorization to go to war.  But, she also voted against the Byrd Ammendment, the Levin Ammendment and the Durbin Ammendment, all of which tried to slow the rush to war.  All four votes show lack of good judgment on her part.

Where is our outrage?

A self-fulfilling prophecy (tx2vadem - 10/22/2007 6:51:40 PM)
The media has already crowned Hillary the winner.  You see polling data demonstrates that she has a commanding lead nationally.  And she has pulled ahead in Iowa and leads in New Hampshire.  The adopted logic of the media is that if you win both Iowa and New Hampshire and you are the current front runner, then you will be the nominee.  Now if the media drum beats that she is the unstoppable, inevitable winner; then surely it must follow that such immense focus is bound to affect both national and local polling results.  It's like mass marketing.  See enough advertisements for Coke, you want to buy Coke.  So, the media, in essence, creates its own self-fulfilling prophecy.  They crown her and then we follow suit.  It also helps that Republicans cannot shut up about her.  Me thinks they doth protest too much.

As a good example, look at Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Where was the media then?  Were they asking tough questions?  Were they educating the public on the history of Iraq or the Middle East, even the 20th century history of the region?  Were they offering alternative scenarios to the "They will welcome us as liberators" scenario?  As I recall, no.  And I watched in utter amazement as some very intelligent people led us all off a cliff.  And even Tony Blair and the British with their previous experience of occupying Iraq (50 or so year ago) just rolled over and played dead.  At the time, I recall saying to my dad that it was surreal and I kept expecting to wake up at any moment.  But alas, it is not a bad dream.  Unless it is a really long, lucid one and then I have been asleep for a long time.

As far as where is the outrage, oh it is all over the place here.  It is just not focused on this yet.  But wait until after November, after everyone does a post mortem on the Virginia elections, and then maybe you can muster some outrage.  As for me, I am all out of outrage for the moment.  There are so many things to be outraged about, it is just overwhelming.

But don't let me be a downer, this all just my depression talking.  Keep fighting and maybe we could get a brokered convention.
