We're still diving into the most recent campaign finance reports, but if you're watching the 1st Senate District race between Republican Tricia Stall and Democrat John Miller one name really jumps out.Outgoing Senate Finance Committee Chairman John Chichester gave Miller $3,000 through his political action committee. Chichester has always been known as a moderate and he's never been shy about whacking lawmakers who sign no-tax pledges -- like the one Stall has signed.
The gift from Chichester is something of a finger in the eye to the Republican lawmakers who were his closest allies in the halls of power in Richmond. Chichester and a group of fellow GOPers - including Senate Majority Leader Walter Stosch and Sens. Tommy Norment, Ken Stolle and William Wampler - aligned so frequently on legislative issues that they were known as the Gang of Five."I'm very honored to have the support of Senator Chichester," Miller said. "He has put good government over party politics. His rejection of my opponent and her extreme views speaks volumes."
Daily Press also had a great article about Stall's phony "robo-calls" that are just pure, outright lies about Millers position on property taxes. They misquoted the Daily Press and have fabricated so many stories, they are losing track of them.
The push-poll conducted by the Republicans in the 1st District showed Miller winning by 70% to 30% and its set the Stall campaign into a negative campaign frenzy. They are in a pure panic mode right now. They have lost on the fund raising front. They have lost in the education debate. They lost on Tricia's running her mouth about "raise the gas tax" when she signed a "no tax" pledge. They have lost on the Ft. Monroe front, with Stall making up stories about Millers position. Miller has never made a public statement of his position on Ft. Monroe. And the "developers" that Stall is screaming about contributing to Miller, have contributed to the Virginia Senate Republican Leadership Trust, which not only gives to Stall but has an office staffer working in the Stall campaign. Now Stall is busted, publicly for fabricating a story about Miller's stand on property taxes.
Its all over but the crying for Stall. I hope Miller beats here 80% to 20%. Might shake up some of the arrogant, negative campaigners in Richmond. Or at least send them to Maryland to work and leave us alone.
