PWC Residents, Please Secure Four No Votes

According to the leading private PWC resident in favor of tomorrow's proposal to fund the anti-illegal immigrant resolution, four of the eight Board members are committed to voting yes. That means the remaining four members must vote no to stop this hateful and recklessly expensive proposal. I strongly encourage PWC residents to do all they can to encourage the members listed below to vote no tomorrow.

I hope it passes (jiacinto - 10/15/2007 10:21:44 PM)
I want them to crack down on illegals.

I want them to address this issue too....but (Barbara - 10/15/2007 10:36:45 PM)
..not with a schoolyard bully at the helm.

My problem is not with the issue; it is with Corey Stewart.  He needs to go, so a serious discussion can take place.  I'm hoping for a 'No' vote.

I will definitely attend the meeting tomorrow.  Anyone else?

I'm planning to. (pol - 10/15/2007 10:39:11 PM)

I contacted Nohe and said, "Vote NO." (pol - 10/15/2007 10:38:26 PM)
I also wrote a group email to all the BOCS and said the same thing.

This resolution is a wedge issue that has divided our county like never before.  There are better ways to resolve this problem.  Karl Rove is alive and well in Prince William County.

I also sent Marty Nohe an email (Barbara - 10/15/2007 10:52:54 PM)
He's questioned the funding, as well as Stewart's tactics, so I'm hopeful.  I feel pretty confident that Caddigan, Jenkins and Barg will vote no.

I also sent an email to my Supervisor, (unfortunately, Mike May) but I'm sure it fell on deaf ears.

I'll be proudly wearing my 'Pandak for Chairman' shirt tomorrow.

Question (uva08 - 10/15/2007 10:59:26 PM)
I think it is worth asking what this debate over illegal immigration is all about.  Are people really concerned with the economic impact it has on wages, the cost of government services, security or this circular intuitive notion that illegal immigration is wrong simply because, well, it's wrong?  Or is it largely about something less acceptable like a fear of cultural change or outright racism?  I don't expect all people to answer this question honestly but I think people need to take a long hard look at themselves and figure out what their opposition to (or support of) illegal immigrants is really all about.  I should also note that I am not making any judgements or accusing anyone of anything.  I am just asking an honest question and making a suggestion.

Its a mix for different people (nova_middle_man - 10/16/2007 7:38:48 AM)
The real issue for me is providing services to illegals before  providing services to legal residents which is wrong

An Excellent Question (Doug in Mount Vernon - 10/16/2007 6:03:23 PM)
This is an excellent question, and the right one that voters should ask of legislators at any level.

What is their motivation?  I don't like the idea that anyone is here illegally and may not be paying all the taxes that they should, or that they didn't come here following all the channels that they should have.

However, the contributions these people are making to our society, our economy, and our communities, cannot be overlooked.  I know people who think these folks are 100% a drain, a blight, and a stain on all three.  They are simply not very bright.

Take Prince William as an example.  On the economic issues alone--are these Supervisors prepared for the economic collapse they are setting up in their county?  With 30% of the population likely to look elsewhere for more welcoming communities and government, does anyone who is trying to sell a house in PWC think this will help them?  Real estate prices will tank, tax revenues will suffer incredibly, and employers will be unable to staff most of the service jobs.  Businesses will close, and people will suffer on many levels.

On the economic impacts alone, which seem pretty obvious, this proposal is a 100% DISASTER!!
