A couple more HoD (legacyofmarshall - 10/15/2007 8:59:47 PM)
Dem. MARGI VANDERHYE raised $151,926 to Rep. DAVE HUNT's $83,806

Dem. BILL THOMAS raised $22,187 to Rep. ANNIE CROCKETT-STARK's $6,175.

Amazing how much money qualifies as "a lot" in different parts of the state.  I have a feeling both these seats will be pickups for us this November.

So - how often does fundraising predict actual voting results? (snolan - 10/15/2007 9:54:36 PM)
This is awesome news for a lot of the campaigns we want to win, but how often does fundraising actually predict the election results?

Serious question - I do not know, but I am very hopeful!

Not a 1:1 correlation, that's for sure. (Lowell - 10/15/2007 9:56:06 PM)
But all else being equal, I'd rather have more money than my opponent than less.

Connie Brennan (Gordie - 10/15/2007 9:56:11 PM)
Connie Brennan raised $21,105.21 in cash contributions and received in-kind contributions of $73,526.65 -- mainly from the State Party for mailings.  Her total receipts were $94,631.86.

Watkins Abbitt received cash of $39,105, with in-kind contributions of $846.85.  His total receipts were $39,951.85.

Since the beginning of the campaign, Connie has total receipts of $283,746.97.

Since the beginning of the campaign, Watkins has total receipts of $210,467.24, a figure that includes $50,000.00 that he loaned his campaign.  He also had $23,541.30 carried forward from a prior campaign.

Yawn (Brian Kirwin - 10/15/2007 10:17:25 PM)
Nice to see Warner/Kaine/Moran PACS and Democratic Party in-kinds look like candidate fundraising.

Back again, I see (Craig - 10/15/2007 10:54:51 PM)
So, got any more enlightening insults?  I see your history is full of them.  You wouldn't happen to be the new incarnation of I.Publius, would you?

Insult? (Brian Kirwin - 10/16/2007 8:18:21 AM)
Craig, how is what I wrote even remotely an insult.  It's a fact.  PAC money and Party money is what it is, but I felt the post made it seem like those high numbers were the result of real fundraising.

How in The World (Gordie - 10/16/2007 9:29:03 AM)
Do you consider Watkins money is REAL fund raising. Watkin's has $9,600 dollars of REAL FUND raising money. The rest of his money is BUYING his vote or his own funds. Remember this is only part of BUYING his vote.

Go to SBE for the rest of lobbyist money.

Yes, your comments were insults when you compare REAL campaign fund raising.

Quote from Democratic Central:

(Looking at contributions, there is something new on Watkins' report -- a fair amount of cash from individuals in his district.  Attorney Robert Carter gave him $5,000 last month.  All cash received from individuals in his district comes to $9,600.  Other big contributors -- beer wholesalers gave him $7,000 this period, for a  total of almost $18,000 from alcohol distributors this campaign cycle.  Out-of-the-district businesses like car dealers and Realtors contributed another $7,750 (in addition to the out-of-the-district beer distributors).

So wait... (JMU Duke - 10/15/2007 10:59:09 PM)
Jim Gilmore/George Allen/Bob McDonnell aren't doling out equal amounts of cash? What's the problem? I wonder where my favorite commenter, "Not Kirwin's Mullet" is hiding these days.

At Least the PAC's are not Hypocrites (Gordie - 10/16/2007 7:09:27 AM)
From posting on RK

I knew that Republicans were total hypocrites on illegal immigration, demagoguing the issue while taking large sums of money from the very corporations that illegally EMPLOY illegals.  However, I didn't realize it was THIS bad:  according to VPAP, Del. Chris Peace works for Smithfield Foods, while Sen. Walter Stosch and Sen. Thomas Norment are actually shareholders!

Also, illegal immigrant employer Smithfield is still dropping money into Virginia races and the Virginia GOP is still accepting their money -- even post ICE raid.  This includes $500 to Del. Thomas Davis Rust, who has simultaneously supported shutting down the Herndon day laborer center.

Then there's $500 from Smithfield to Sen. Jay "Keep The Illegals Out of College" O'Brien.

Then there's $500 from Smithfield to far-right-winger Nick "Feminazi" Rerras.

Then there's $1,000 from Smifthfield to the Majority Leader, Morgan Griffith...and his henchman Terry Kilgore.

It looks like Fred Quayle buys his pig products for his fundraising events from Smithfield; gotta love that illegal immigrant produced pork!

Then there's $500 to Joe May.
