The Republicans, who served in the Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush 43 administrations, have formed "Republicans for Schultz," and "plans an active outreach campaign to Republican and independent voters before the Nov. 6 election." As former deputy press secretary to President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford, Gerald Warren, said:
Karen is a strong opponent of the irresponsible Dominion (Virginia) Power transmission project, and she has outlined a responsible position on illegal immigration. She deserves crossover support because of her experience and her high ethical standards in campaigning as well as her family life.
Karen Schultz is going to win.
She does deserve crossover support, and I very much hope she wins. But, is anyone else a little uneasy about that last clause? Why is it that Republicans feel the need to make the perceived quality of a candidate's family life a qualification for office? More troubling, I assume that Mr. Warren would oppose a candidate who had a family structure he disagreed with.
Personally, I'd assume that most voters would be a lot more interested in Karen's position on transportation financing, education, etc.
She has a quiet, unassuming intelligence about her. Very non-candidate like. There's not any arrogance or swagger. Yet - listen to her speak on issues and/or have a personal discussion with her - and you realize see who smart she is, how caring she is, how confident she is. Karen Shultz is my kind of candidate.
And no - I'm not from any campaign.
As for Jill Vogel Holtzman -- arrogance drips off of her.
It will be close, but everyone I have met that knows Vogel says that Vogel is not very friendly. That seems to have snuffed would be support. Schultz on the otherhand is smart, down-to-earth and very warm.
