Dear Gentlepersons:

The story below is another example of the incompetence of the present Bush Administration.  Some members of Congress, people serving in the Justice and Defense Departments, citizen groups, and elder statesmen from both political parties, have tried in vain for years to help this Bush Administration achieve the capacity for orderly, efficient and moral government.  They have all failed because:  "... a prince who is not wise himself will never take good advice, ..." ~ Machiavelli

Here is the latest tale of Administration bungling:

Bush Gang Mishandles al Qaeda Video; Sacrifices Investigation, National Security

In the midst of an ongoing policy debate over how much power the Bush administration should have to obtain surveillance powers, the White House has demonstrated once again that it simply can't be trusted to handle national security information responsibly. ...

Congress shirks their responsibility to act as a coequal branch of our government by not exercising Congressional Oversight of the Administration.  There are two perils here:

This Administration is extraordinarily incompetent and ethically challenged.  Lacking self-control it needs external controls to limit the torrent of poor Administration decisions.

Congressional Oversight abandoned anytime sets a bad example, because historically Legislative bodies resigning their authority smoothes the path to the demise of Republics, in favor of rule by efficient, and victorious, heroic figures, such as Caesar.  For now, our Republic will be saved, but only because our Leaders will not be victorious, in Iraq or Iran.

So, what may we do about our Congress?  First, we may replace Members of Congress who have made that "service" a career.  Being a Member of Congress should not be a career for exactly the same reasons that we do not have professional Jurors.  In the 6th Congressional District of Virginia we have an opportunity to replace our current career Member of Congress.  This is especially desirable because our career Congressman has been uniformly unable to cope with the challenges flowing from the present dysfunctional Bush Administration.  And now we have an alternative, in Sam Rasoul http://www.samrasoul... .

For the future, recall that:  "If you think yourself too wise to involve yourself in government, you will be governed by those too foolish to govern." ~ Plato

With every good wish,
